LOL, how's the house process coming along? Do you have a set closing date yet?

Lego mentioned tires and PSS in the cold. While unrelated to that discussion, I went to Discount Tire yesterday to top off on air on the Pilot Sport A/S 3's. I have 12k miles on them and the rear tires are bald (right rear is worse).

This is a tire that's rated for 45k miles in a square setup and 30k in staggered. I've had pure summer tires last longer than this. My last set of Pilot Sport A/S Plus that I had on my 19's lasted me 53k miles! The rear tires were much wider but not sure that would have a huge impact on tread life. The A/S 3 is supposed to be an improvement over the A/S Plus. What gives Michelin!

Discount Tire said they'd pro-rate them so at least there's that as a consolation prize.

That's nuts. How are the fronts in comparison to the rears?

I'm assuming you keep them at standard pressure, right?

Yep, that's definitely unacceptable, have you had an alignment check recently?

It's coming along. Inspection last week. The builder has a couple of small things to fix, broken tile, shower controls backwards, and add screens to all the windows. Right now my closing is scheduled for the end of April, but I may try to move it up.

Is that inside tire wear @twin_snails?

Had the same problem with my last wheels and the new tire shop I took it to said the last alignment place didn't set the toe to spec? I had bad inside tire wear, to the steal belts with the rest of the tire still having about 45% tread life on them.

The fronts are practically perfect. I'll have to get my tire gauge out and measure but they look brand new. I usually run 35psi front and 34psi rear. I don't track my car or drive aggressively either.

I had one last year. Probably time for another for sure.

It's not inside tire wear...it's even across the tire, with slightly more wear in the center because I run marginally higher pressures because I prefer a more taut ride compliance. Yikes...yeah the toe will kill tires quick. How many miles did you get out of them?

By the way, congrats on the house Kirk!

So you have brand new PS A/S on all four wheels, and after 12k miles of granny driving, the fronts look like they have no wear, yet the rears are uniformly bald... is that about right?

Since your tires are staggered, the fronts are not from the same batch as the rears, so I'm wondering if it's possible to have tires from a bad batch? Is there such a thing?

That kind of thing would get me to contact Michelin and make a fuss.

I would love a link that describes this story in detail. Tragically, I seem to have missed it!

Affirmative. It's certainly possible and the guy at Discount Tire suggested that as well. I saw another review of them this afternoon by Hdtvguyatl...said he got 14k miles out of his rears on an Audi A6...(in the reviews section here: Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires | Michelin US )

Michelin, bring back the A/S Plus because much > than A/S 3. The Plus is still available, just in a sparse smattering of sizes that I wouldn't need. I had very high hopes for the A/S 3 when it was announced because for me, the A/S Plus was already so good.

While cruising the reviews for the A/S Plus, I saw that someone had negged them with 1 star and they wouldn't recommend the tire to a friend. Someone from Michelin responded that they would contact them regarding their experience. That may be a good starting point. We'll see what happens.

I would expect this kind of mileage for the Pilot Sport summer tire (my '04 G35 was so equipped) and I never got more than 15k-ish miles out of them.

Here's a copy of the review that should be going up in 3-7 days on Michelin's site here: Pilot Sport A/S 3 | Michelin Tires

**Begin**After many years of owning several sets of the A/S Plus version of this tire, I had high hopes for the A/S 3 when it was announced. I got 53k miles out of my A/S Plus in 245/40-19 front and 275/35-19 rear which is incredible mileage. I drive conservatively (I'm back on my stock sizes of 225/50-18 and 245/45-18) and have only managed to get 13k miles out of the A/S 3's in the rear. I have alignments done regularly and the wear is even. The fronts look nearly new and I don't track my car either.

The tire is great in traction and has a nice ride assuming it will last. I had longer life out of the Pilot Sport summer tire on my previous vehicle.

This is an otherwise phenomenal tire but the lack of longevity kills it for me on the all season rating. I would expect this from a summer tire but against the backdrop of my experience with the A/S Plus, the very short lifespan is disappointing to say the least.**End**

We'll see what they say and I'll update you guys. Also contacted them and voiced my disappointment.

A little Tuesday gift and a driving style that would beget VERY short tread life. Notice at :44 LOL. Amazing control and throttle modulation throughout.

Did you ever rotate left to right and vice versa?

I've got to do this with my new set of Hankooks. I never did that with my old set rear tires are too expensive not to do it.
