Fuel Door rubbing against fender

Hey Guys,

I have a 2013 G37 Sedan and I'm wondering if anyone has this problem...

When I open up the fuel door, the right side of the fuel door (the side on the hinge) rubs against the inside of the car. Not only does it make that rubbing noise, but it's actually rubbed off the paint on the inside fender area.

Put in other words, it's almost like the fuel door is not centered correctly, like the fuel door is sitting slightly too much to the right, so when you open up the fuel door it rubs against up against the inside of the fender.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Can this be fixed?

Thanks!

Anything can be fixed.

Did you buy your G used or new? If its new I would take it back to the dealer and have them address it. If its used then it sounds like it could have been in an accident and the fender (or fuel door) wasn't put back on or aligned properly.

I ended up doing the caveman...I pulled on the fuel door to try to realign it. It was surprisingly malleable.

OP - be sure to have the bare metal dealt with to prevent corrosion. especially around the fueling area, not good. the dealer should be able to take care of you under warranty. you are covered for 4 years bumper to bumper, and this issue sounds like it was caused by poor workmanship from the factory.

thanks I have the official nissan touch-up paint, so I'm going to paint the parts that are bare metal.

Not true. My '12 was impeccable, better put together than a Lexus ES 350 inside and out. Since it is a '13, Infiniti has to cut corner somewhere to make up the lower MSRP.

What's wrong with your '12? I owned the car for more than 2 years. Never in shop once, only oil changes. Great car.

Bought my 2010 brand new and it has the same issue. The dealership is useless and never fixed it.

nothing wrong with the car mechaincally but the fit and finish is not spot on. Panel gaps, door alignments, occassional rattles and squeaks, the width of each panels put together on the car are a bit off if one plays attention to it.

BTW anyone ever have the issue of there G not starting? One day I came out from the gym and did the usual start-up twice the car cranks and died down on the third try it started. Didn't happen ever since???

+ 1

No problems with mine either.

I don't understand why the OP would not go back to the dealer with a brand new car to take care of the problem?
I'm on my second G after owning a 06 G35 6sp traded in with 171796 miles and both are way better than my previous 92 Lexus

This.
It does not make much sense to repair something covered by a warranty.

That's something interesting. I did spot a silver 2010 or 2011 on dealer's lot had a little misaligned front fender around the headlight. But nothing like that on my 2012. I have a loaded x with wood panels, but I don't think this would make a different in assembling quality.
