Finally painted my exhaust cans!
I think that really looks great. One of the few times I've ever seen someone take a can of Krylon to a car part, and actually arrive at an improvement.
I have always wanted to get some cat-back cans for our G, but have always been put off by the amount of attention-grabbing shine. Just too much for my age...
However, I wonder how those will wear with the abuse they get from road debris coming off the tires? Make sure you post some pictures after a few thousand miles.

I actually got the idea from member Soundmike and he posted his up a couple years back and didn't have issues, so hopefully I prepped them well enough that they'll stand the test of time. That was another reason I didn't go w/ a glossier finish as the matte tends to bond better to shiny surfaces (and also hides small pits, etc).
I just had a long lunch with a buddy who recently purchased a 2008 650i Vert. One of my suggestions looking at his back end was to (you guessed it) paint the cans black. But these aren't SS, they're just grungy OEM metal. It will look so much better stealth. Particularly on a car like this.
Just got back, and not to derail your thread, but the car is fresh in my mind... and holy crap this thing is heavy! Not a moment goes buy when you aren't aware of how heavy this convertible is. Other than that... meh. It's OK. Not my cup of tea.

And if nothing else I can always freshen up the paint annually if need be.
Looking good Newt! Did you bend the hangers too? The tips look tucked up there higher now. On your blacked out car it looks so much better. Now the question is, do I paint mine when I take them off to adjust the tip fitment. Decisions, decisions...
It's probably just an optical illusion or a slightly different camera angle, I haven't touched the hangers ever, just bolted it together. Here's a pic of Soundmikes painted cans on a silver G for reference, I'd say do it!

The Tanabes look real nice, haven't heard one personally but from what I've heard it's not too much different than OEM, just a bit deeper. Nice quality from what I've seen, would be a nice mod to your G LR.
Really, wow. Those new photos just make the paint job look fantastic. It looks like a factory thing. SO stealth. I guess the black lower lip of the rear bumper also lends to that feeling. So nice. If (big if) I ever spring for some cat backs for our G, I'll have to seriously give that some thought. I'm loathe to put anything big and shiny back there. Already too many negative connotations about our rides out here.
