is it possible for cruise to be on when car starts?

Hello,

I've owned several hondas and mazdas, and they were all able to have the cruise system on by default, so setting the cruise is a one button touch.

Is this something that can be set up in my G37?

If it makes any difference it's a 2009 g37xS with nav/tech/lasercruise/whatever

By default the cruise turns off when the car turns off. There is no intended way to have it automatically on when you start the car.
In 7 years owning a G and being on the Infiniti forums, I have not seen anyone post regarding a way to keep cruise on at all times.

it's funny, when I got my first nissan (2003 altima) I asked the same question on an altima forum and got roughly the same response.
But the general consensus in the honda crowd is "why WOULDNT you want the cruise system on all the time?"

must be a nissan guy thing!

And just to be clear, I don't mean that I want the car to leap up to a set cruise speed as soon as it starts, I just don't want to have to turn the cruise system on every time I start the car

It's all about the cruise control button. With Honda's you literally have to press and depress a switch to activate and decativate the cruise control.

With the Infiniti its more like a sensor that you turn on and off. When you shut the car off it goes back to the default mode which is "off". I'm sure the terms and phrases I used above are incorrect but that's my theory.

Seems much easier just to leave it alone and go the two button route

I always wondered the same thing, they have a relay for the VDC that should work but I haven't gotten anyone to confirm if it would. I hate having to press the button every time and would rather it just be on, about the only thing Honda does right anymore

LOL people think that turning off the VDC is such a mission critical thing that it needs to happen automatically, but asking about doing the opposite for cruise control gets a bunch of blank stares

Or just leave it alone entirely and drive the car yourself.

I never use CC. In any car. Ever.

Ever ever? Not even on a long road trip?

Sniper, he said, never ever ever ever... ^∞

Actually, on the hwy, adaptive cruise control would be nice. Sometimes you need to slow down slightly.

That could be. I might also be confusing the wife's Honda with a Ferrari 458. I mean, that CR-V is pretty snazzy. Although it's more likely you have your bread & butter Nissan confused with a luxury car.

All I'm saying is that cruise control is as much an enabler to distraction as it is a convenience. And on the highway, you're more often than not just an obstacle to the traffic flow, and that's not cool. But primarily it feels like a loss of control. And a willing one, at that.

Been driving for over 30 years, and although most every car I've owned had CC, I just never used it, for the reasons stated.

I get pretty good mileage driving 50 miles to work after filling up using cruise control.

Telcoman
I always see your most recent fillups and wonder how you average such high mpg. I guess 50 miles on CC daily explains it. You would not break 20mpg if you were driving in mix city/hwy with stop and go traffic. When I take a long road trip, I would average over 30mpg with 91 octane.

That's fantastic mileage, telcoman! Truly excellent for this car. I realize that statistics are all over the place, but I believe a fair average is about 10% savings by using cruise control. Some say more, some less, but 10% seems about right.

After 13K miles on the G, I'm languishing in the basement at 18 mpg. Fortunately for me and my situation, I don't care.
