Window Vinyl, R2C, Dip, Lights, and Other Misc Stuff

So I've done a few things on my 2009 X sedan and thought I would finally post what I've done so far instead of doing a thread for each.

Fresh after getting her:

Installed R2C, didn't notice much performance, but sound above 3k RPMs is a real impovement:

Vinyled off the window trim:

This thread was pretty much dead on for everything. Process took a little over 2 hours, which wasn't bad since this was my first dealings with vinyl.
https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-i...-g-sedans.html

Dipped the grill:

And the spoiler:

I know dip is hit or miss with a lot of people, but I think it turned out really good.

Installed the illuminated door sills (took about an hour with hard wiring):

Also, replaced all interior lights and license plate lights with Diode Dynamics Stage 2.

Replaced stock headlights with 6000K from Diode and the fogs with the 6000K HID conversion kit from Diode.

Right now, working on a custom sub box. Will be building it into the back of the trunk and porting in through the trunk pass through. Might build it as a bandpass, but not sure yet.

Wants after system:
-HFCs
-Catback
-Lowering Springs
-Rims

Not sure what else after, but I'm sure that more will come.

Let me know what you guys think. As for the Plasti Dip, I was wanting to see how it would look before painting or vinyling both. After doing it, actually really like how it looks.

Looks good. Definitly go with vinyl now that you have PD the grill and trunk piece. It will flow better with your window trim. PD is so dull and rubbery looking.

Thanks, I will probably be doing that soon. I was really impressed by how well the vinyl matched the paint and makes me want to pull the PD.

I PD my grill and pulled it off the same day. I didn't like that matte, rubbery texture. It also attracts lint like crazy. The smooth gloss back with vinyl is much better. I also wrapped my window trims in gloss black vinyl.

Completely agree, especially when it comes to water spots and lint. I do like the PD better than the chrome though.

Nice look ChuToy, glad you found my trim DIY helpful. Now that you've got a bit of experience w/ the vinyl it's time to wrap that grill. I'll be posting a DIY on grill wrapping in a few days, stay tuned. Here's a pic of my carbon wrapped grill.

Thanks blnewt and your DIY was a lifesaver for this. I wanted to wrap the grill, but with no experience with vinyl before was a little hesitant. That looks really good and I'll be watching for it and really appreciate the DIYs.

awesome, i'll going to plastidip the side window molding and the trunk spoiler/front grill.

when you changed the fog lights, did you go thru the engine by removing the intake or from under the wheel?

Make sure you over tape so you don't have as much to wipe if you use PD. It does come off with a little goo gone, but its still easier to pull paper and tape. Also, I had some PD over spray that was so thin, it looked like fogging and was hard to see and get it all off.

For the fogs, I did a little of both. I actually couldn't take off my wheels at the time I did the install due to the dealer no giving me the correct wheel lock key. So i turned the tire and pulled back the wheel well and was able to get at the fogs a little bit. Did most of the work from the top of the car with just loosening and moving the intakes a little bit. It is so much easier to go through wheel well from underneath, if you can take off your wheels lol.

You really should vinyl wrap the trim, PDip's not a good look for the trim since the center pillars are already vinyl wrapped gloss black from the factory. You also have the smooth door frames and the rubbery coarse texture of the Dip is out of place. The vinyl trim wrap is simple, cheap & easily removable, and you'll have a result that looks factory.

I would completely agree. It's not too bad on the grill and spoiler, but I debated doing the trim and decided it wouldn't look right. The vinyl is fast and easy as blnewt said and will match everything else. It really looks factory with how close of a match the vinyl is and it's still cheap.

To each their own I guess. I just wasn't a fan of chrome around the windows after I blacked out the grill. Felt it just looked out of place.
