Coming from a 528i, I can tell you that the maintenance/repairs is getting outta control...
I have 6+ pages of repairs and maintenance and it has only 88k!

I'm looking into a G37s....

P.S. Just had the battery changed and coded ..and yes this is required esp. since all new BMW's are switching to AGM.

Come again? Read your Service and Maintenance Schedule, Sal.

Maybe with synthetic you can swap at 7500, but not on dino.

There's 2 schedules, depending on your driving situation. I wouldn't follow the 7500 interval though. My Audi uses synthetic and has a 10,000 mile oil change interval.

Per 2011 G37 owner manual p. 9-2 "SAE 5W-30 with API Certification Mark" is the requirement - any modern dino oil will meet this. Per 2011 Infiniti maintenance and service guide OCI is 7,500 miles.

i was going to do 7500 changes, but after seeing how tiny the oil filter is on this car, i'm gonna do 5k with amsoil full synthetic

^ yeah, that is why a lot of guys use the larger filter found on the M and QX. it is same thread, diameter, and everything else except that it is about 1" longer for added filter media. i did the same thing on my G35 as well. the larger filter is what my wife's CRV uses so i just buy a bunch of Wix premium filters and they fit both engines...

Here you go, boss... the G37 Service and Maintenance Guide. Might want to check your math.

By all means, change the oil with whatever frequency you like. It's your car. However, I don't recommend telling the next owner that you use non-synthetic oil changed at 7500 mile intervals. Something tells me that won't go over well.

^perhaps he falls under the "schedule 2" category (basically only highway driving)

All things considered, the G is fairly practical in this regard. Sure there are plenty of more economical choices, but relative to the performance, I agree with the above statement (I know this isnt ground breaking but maybe helpful to OP)

Could be. However, there are far better ways to save $20 two or three times a year.

Either way, IMO Sal's right in his assessment that the G is a pretty basic car. Nothing so fancy that you need a specially trained Bavarian mechanic to service. It's just another Nissan, after all. (GTR notwithstanding)

Yes, those are the filters I use except I use the Bosch premium filters. They're about 30% larger than the standard thimble-size G filters

Programming a battery ? Do they sell batteries with Microcontrollers inside them? Confused. What advantage would a programmable battery offer, other than the monitoring of charge levels over time (any dealer will test your battery for free when you get an oil change as they are dying to sell you one of their overpriced units).

This has aroused my curiosity. I may need to research with my Bimmer Fanboy friends...seems like overkill. I think I would have to drink two bottles of wine before having enough courage to write a check for a $500 battery replacement. Reason number 100+ why I am not driving a BMW today.

That's because Audi's use so much oil between changes.

infiniti batterys at full retail are 159.99 and that includes repro and labor... all infiniti batteries come with a 84 month prorate and 24 mon 100 percent coverage if it fails a load test.... cost of doing anything on a infiniti is so cheap in relation to BMW or Mercedes and if he payed 550 for a battery he was ripped off IMO

but if the infiniti youre looking at is a 2011 or newer the battery is covered under your 4/60 warranty even after 2 years

In Nov 2010 I had the battery replaced in my 06 G35 at my local Infiniti dealer with a 700 CCA battery. The dealer price was close to what independent shops were charging. I paid $181.00 including tax and everything worked as I I drove away after enjoying their snacks, reading the local paper, and watching a little TV. My G was also washed and vacuumed.
