The other downside of the 225's on the stock 8.5x18 rear wheels is that they leave you really exposed to curbs. All the worse in winter with the snow and water hiding potholes and curbs where you lease expect them. The 245's are just barely wide enough to save you from a mild rub and really aren't that much more expensive then the 225's.

I wouldn't put a wider tire like a 245 on for winter driving when I can fit a 225. That makes no sense to me. The 225 tire wall still protrudes from the 8.5" wheel.
Aesthetically, the condition of the OEM wheels doesn't concern me in the slightest. They have been relegated the equivalent of steelies. I never cared for the "duck feet". All personal preference, of course.
That said, they are still in excellent condition
Remember, narrower tires are better for the snow because it will cut through the snow where as wider tires give more surface area aka your car will be skiing.

^ exactly. my 225's actually protrude more than the 245's did. every tire model has different cross-section properties as well as different rim-protector configurations. due to much squarer shoulders, the DWS 225's i have will do a much better job at protecting my rims than the old 245 Kumhos that were on there.
^ actually, 225/50 tires are spec'd to fit on a 6-8" rim. so it's only 1/2" off which is neglibible. actually, the OEM front on a G35 Sport coupe (and maybe g37S coupe) is "stretched" 1/2" inch as well. no problems, no issues. this small of a "stretch" makes for sharp turn-in without the goofy look of those drifter types.
Looks cool, i took my winter setup off this weekend, put the stockers back on until spring when ill be throwing the Vossen CV3's on and selling the stockers.

yea, not in NY man, once the second week of march comes by the weather gets more mild...
plus i highly doubt there will be another serious snow storm any time soon judging by current weather patterns and trends...
Temp is also a deciding factor. I see that even in NY,NY high temps are still at 7C (44F) for a couple more weeks. That's still 'pliable' winter tire weather.
There doesn't have to be snow and ice. All season will suffice though.
I'm likely just a bit jealous. I have to wait at least 6 more weeks before I'm comfortable putting my summer wheels on

Yep, i was moving some stuff around the garage so i figured might as well swap them while i was in the "work on stuff" mood.
