My apologies ... didnt mean to post that till I had pictures and then had to go do somethin. The neighbor who hit my car would prefer to pay out of pocket rather then insurance so just trying to figure out roughly how much this is going to cost him before I go into a bodyshop and get an exact estimate

Thanks

Thanks
You need to get a proper estimate at a shop. That's pushed in pretty far so the cover should be removed to have a look underneath. Possible backup sensor damage as well.
If your neighbour wants an immediate estimate tell him/her $5k cash
. I'm sure after that he/she will be willing to wait and hear from a professional.
P.S. Don't go cheap for their benefit. Get it done properly.

He should refuse to pay because he had to look at you wearing black socks with flip flops. WTF man?
But seriously, It will require a new rear bumper, possibly one sensor, and paint. Nobody on this forum can accurately tell you how much that will cost unless they work for a body shop. The best anyone can do is make guesses, what good is that to you? If I tell you it's $700 worth of damage and you tell him that then find out it's $2600 you'll look like you are trying to scam him. Just take your car and get an estimate from the shop of your choice. You don't have to file an insurance claim just because you got an estimate. Take him the estimate. If he suggests anything other than paying you the full amount of the estimate right away, get a police report and file an insurance claim. Done.
Anything else is a mistake.

Since he wants to pay out of pocket and keep the insurance company out of it I'd say a fair estimate would be between $10,000 and $20,000. Mainly for pain and suffering, depreciation of the car, body work, and because you can.
