Hi there, I just leased a 2012 G37xs. I am thinking to drop my car with a set of coil-overs. I am not sure I can do so since I don't own the car, the dealer owns it. Can anyone here tell me can I do that? Or what should I be aware of when I am putting aftermarket parts on my car. Thank you guys!!!

Just keep the stock stuff and put it back on before you turn the car back in.

 

You can do whatever you want as long as you return the car back to OEM configuration if/when you return it.

Goes without saying that if you choose to buy it, you don't need to do that.

 

But the dealer is not gonna find out I have been modified the car? I am so hesitate to do it because none of my friend done it before. And I turned to some local mechanic, they all suggest me NOT to do so, dont know why

So what if the dealer finds out? It has no bearing on the car being a lease. What it does have some relevance to is if there is a warranty claim, and the failure was directly caused by the aftermarket part - but that applies to any car under warranty, leased or purchased outright.

Again, when you return the car, just make sure it's back in stock condition. To that point, only get mods that are reversible (ie no cutting or permanent modifications to the chassis/bodywork etc).

FWIW my car is leased and I have a custom oil cooler setup installed. I don't care that it's leased because I know i can take all the parts out over a weekend or two. lol.

 

And to correct you, the dealer does NOT "own" the car - Infiniti Financial Services does. Which would still be true if it were financed, until you made the last payment.
