Sunglass Holder

So I'm going through my owners manual, getting to know my new car, and I came across some info about the sunglasses holder. Apparently you aren't supposed to leave glasses in the holder while parked in direct sunlight as heat may damage the glasses. Seriously??? Anyone have that happen? I just found this funny I guess.

It depends on the sunglasses. I had a pair of Fossil sunglasses that kept breaking, the frame was half plastic and half metal and where they joined is where they would break, I literally went through 8 pairs before they discontinued them. Since then I bought one pair of Ray Bans that stay in my car 24/7 and always in the sun glass holder when not in use and never have had a problem. I think it comes down to build quality in the glasses, and Infiniti was just covering their butt.

I've not had that happen. But sunglasses in my sunglasses holder is my #1 source of rattles in the car....they should put in a warning about that

Yes, it's a poor design.

Same here. Haven't had any issues with my Ray Bans except for the unpleasant rattling from the poorly designed plastic compartment. We also have a Camry at home that doesn't make the sunglasses rattle, maybe I'll take a look to see how they insulated the compartment...

In regards to the rattling I had some at first when I got the car. I found out that if you put them in a certain way then they wont rattle, mine hasn't since. I'm not sure how to explain how to it but when their folded up put them in upside down where its as flat as possible on the bottom.

that space would be better used for other items. interior designers pick the hottest spot, up in the interior and near the windshield. something down lower would have been better.

Never had the glasses break, but dayum they do get hot.

I could see an issue with plastic sunglasses...

Always store my glasses in the overhead holders of all of my Nissan/Infiniti's, one of the best feature in these cars, IMO. Never had a problem breaking glasses, but it does get super hot under summer sun.

I had the same problem. I thought something was loose in the sunroof. I ended up repositioning the sunglasses and they were fine since then.

On the other hand, the display toggle button is a pain. I wish it was on the steering wheel like my wife's IS250.

Yes sir, +1 on this. It makes no sense having to reach behind the steering wheel in order to change the display readings/menu. My Camry also has a Display button, on the steering wheel FTW!

My wife had the lenses in a pair of inexpensive sunglasses craze in the compartment in her Sentra. I've never had a problem with my Bausch and Lomb glasses that have polycarbonate lenses. That is through two Maximas and now the G37. They get so HOT on a summer day that you just have to put them down for a few minutes before you can wear them.
