Diagnostic fee, wth!
Looks like you had your car for a short period so you might not run into this issue or the dealership you go to wants to keep their customer happy.... you lucky, you still in the honeymoon period

I am not the free loading type. Just not happy with their practice. I had two other car before the G (American and Japanese) and was never charge to have car looked at or I was not aware they waived that fee. They look at the problem and tell it would cost you x to have it fix since its not cover under warranty.
Due to the economy, companies have to adjust , I get it... and I can see other companies using this as an excuse to increase their profit margin. I am not saying infiniti or the dealership is doing this. I have no clue. I just don't agree with dealership assessing a diag fee if problem turns out not cover under warranty while your car is still under warranty.
See example in post #4. Let's agree to disagree
Not looking for free work...they on ubid? I got some spare change lol
I could be wrong but Service advisor can only tell you car needs to be look at by a mechanic and if problem is not cover under warranty, and if you decide not to have work done, you will have to pay for diag fee.

Well, I am an Infiniti Service advisor so...
How about this example... VDC/Slip/Traction lights come on the dash. Advisor tells you a diag fee may apply. Finds rear brakes worn, customer declined repairs... what is the tech suppose to do?
I didn't provide specific example to begin with on purpose, as there can be different cases to argue for or against and derail my intend. I am not mechanically incline but do try to use common but often fail
. As an average consumer how would one know if your problem is warranty work (not talking wear and tear stuff)Since you provided a good example and in my opinion of the diag fee, if car is still within the warranty period, no a diag fee should not be assessed but if it outside of warranty period, than yes. I know you gonna say who pays for the mechanic time. Its part of cost in doing business just like any other businesses. Let me take this outside of this discussion as you might be too close. If someone eats half of their food and tells manager food was not prepare to liking (insert what people normally complaints about, steak over cook, pork chop under coat etc) and says he/she not going to pay for it and leaves. Whacha gonna do?
I would also imagine if a dealership that charge a diagnostic fee as common practice than it would stand to reason as policy they state verbally/written that a "diagnostic may apply", regardless of what the service agent thinks. Wouldn't you agree?
