I can't help but wonder if the variances in dealer service loaner car courtesy for oil changes can possibly be based on two major factors: (1) If you purchased your vehicle from the servicing dealership; (2) How much profit they made from your vehicle purchase.

I generally do my homework and hammer the salesman for the best possible price on my vehicle purchase. In doing so, I don't expect the fringe benefits later for service. I know some buyers hate the haggling process and end up paying hundreds to thousands of dollars extra in profit to the dealer. Maybe such buyers get a special little star next to their service account?

That's possible if the car is on a hoist and you can swing the cover down and out of the way..
I can't imagine that would work with the car only lifted about 12" from the ground

I used to change my own oil, but the problem for many of us is what to do with the old oil. In Southern California most gas stations will no longer take it unless they were the ones who did the oil change. And of course, it’s illegal to spill it out somewhere. There are sanctioned disposal centers, but that requires crawling under the car to collect the oil, putting this dirty stuff somewhere in your trunk and taking over to them which may be miles away. For $39 that includes new oil and filter, it’s easier for me to just let someone else do it.

Loaner car is a courtesy. No dealer is required to supply them, even with warranty work. Infiniti happens to offer that service. To be correct, they are called Courtesy Vehicles, not Loaner Vehicles. Expecting a courtesy vehicle each time is just the entitlement mentality this society has.

That's crazy. Well make up a lie saying I hear noise from the brakes and get the checked out for free. Than you can get a loaner .

what you paid for the car, or what dealership you bought it from has nothing to do with the service. Service and sales are 2 different departments. Service couldnt car less where you bought it from because they are still getting your money. As stated by many, service loaner on a oil change is unnecessary. The main factor will be the amount of loaner cars available. If they are tight on supply then there is a priority. The dealership where I work we have more the 50 loaner vehicles, so you can generally get them whenever, my previous one had 12 so a little bit of a different sotry.

My car is pretty low and I just use ramps that lift it an additional 7" and I can easily get to the shroud and just remove the back 5 bolts, fold the flap back (held in place by an extra hydraulic jack) and get to everything. Takes about 15 minutes once I get it up the ramps

Hmmm...interesting. I guess I'm just thinking too much in terms of general business tactics: The more profit you create for a business as a consumer, the better chances you have of receiving requested perks. Sort of like Vegas, the more you spend and gamble at any given casino, the more comps and perks you receive. They want you to keep coming back because you are clearly filling their profit coffers well beyond the average Joe.

Even with the sales and service being two different departments, isn't the dealership as a whole governed by a single owner (or group) that makes all the calls? If I owned a dealership I would definitely make sure my service department is aware of my superior customers, those that paid MSRP and purchased all the additional aftermarket crap. I would be willing to authorize additional perks to keep them happy, as I would definitely want them back for their next purchase.

Well, maybe this just doesn't happen in the car business...

unfortunately, a loaner car isn't part of the service warranty except for the 1 year services (or warranty claims, something that takes longer than 1.5 hours.)

if they're giving you a loaner; typically it's due to some inspection; or cause it's a slow day and there's one available... but the general policy is that they wouldn't provide loaner car for a 40 minute oil change... which is contrary to their original business practice of a loaner vehicle for every service model.

In my opinion that has nothing to do with it. They make their money from the service so the loaner should not be an issue even if you got the car for cost. It is supposed to be part of the Infiniti experience. This is a crap dealer.

^ not necessarily a g sedan. if you're at an infiniti dealer (not nissan) you'll get something from their model line. usually a g25/37, EX35, or FX35. i've had all the above over the past 6 years of G ownership when i'm getting warranty work done (since i never go to dealers for routine maintenance).
