Driver?

Thanks for the comments all. The tint ran me about $190 for their top quality stuff (3M I think). I do much of my driving in NYC where I dont expect to be bothered about the 5%, its the burbs I worry about. Cops who have nothing better to do

I did drive the 3, but not against my G :-)

I fully expected the 335 with launch control to take me off the line, and perhaps that came down to driver. Consider the variable, the Z4, which was also in front of the 335 through 1st gear. The 335 had a bad launch, and he knew it after. However, second time around on the roll we were both at the top of our gear and had dead even start. The G37 pulled. Whatever the case, I was happy to win both times.

5% tint is an excellent choice, looks great and yes def the burbs will give you the most tint ticket trouble. Here in detroit, they have murders, drug trafficking and prostitution to worry about so I too can cruise with 5% without problems *knocks on wood anyways*

you should consider windshield tints if you can

btw, you're quite lucky to have an open track to use like that, hope you had a great evening racing our evil nemesis (335i)

If you drive in Flushing Queens, then you could get more than 1 tint tickets in a day. But you might have better luck driving in Manhattan...cops there are usually too busy to write you a tint ticket.

335is puts up some numbers

Just occured to me that the bmw my buddy has is a 335is - 20 more hp than a 335i.

He was at the track today, ran a 13.0. Interestingly, the bmw ran faster withot launch control on.

On the road, he has now beat me more times than I beat him. To be expected. It is always close though, he only pulls a half car length through 2nd and mid third. I hold him as I pull through the top of third and pull on him in 4th.. yeah, we were moving.

I dont think a regular 335i will hold up at all against my G. The 335is is barely beating out my G37S (6MT, sedan), occasionally losing, and it has 20+ more HP than a std 335.

BTW - no tint infractions yet...

Thanks for posting this stuff RX. It's nice to know the G can more than hold its own against a 335is.

I have two questions for you:

Do you have any timeslips for your car? You must doing low and mid 13's @ 104-105 if your keeping up with a 335is.

Have you dragged any IS350's? They're geared very aggressively and I've seen them whoop up on the G37.

I've had 5% tints since day one of owning the G. I have never received a tint ticket(Knocking on wood). Down here in Miami you rarely get pulled for just tints but if you get pulled for speeding or something else of that nature then the tint tester comes out. Your car is looking nice btw.

When I test drove the IS350 a couple of years back I sure didn't think they were agressively geared, but maybe thats just me.

I owned an is350 previously and it would pull extremely hard through third gear and by fourth start dying out. On my 08 g35 5at I definitely can feel the slower acceleration. Not even a question.

The nice thing about the BMW335is is that for a few hundred bucks he could be in the mid 12's. Gotta love turbo's. My buddies brother-in-law had a grand national with an adjusted waste gate, bigger injectors, exhaust, and cheater slicks and ran 12.1

I've had multiple g37 loaners and although I notice a minuscule difference from my g35 it's definitely not as fast as an is350. Also I should mention car and driver puts the 0-60 on the 07-08 g35 one tenth quicker than an 09 g37. up to you if you want to believe it as I'm sure it's been beat to death on these forums.
