Settling in period...

A friend had suggested that I drive around for a week or 2 to let the coilovers 'settle in' before setting them too low. I have driven on them for 10 days. I will be adjusting the front ride height within the week.

Anyway, I got the right set and now they are on. I want to drop the front another inch or so. My wheels are Niché Targa 20s, 8.5 fronts and 10 rears. I was looking at the aluminum under shroud just this past night. Great minds think alike they say!

I ordered my BC's about 3 weeks ago, with a swift spring upgrade being custom made for me, and because it's during tax season sale they're back ordered.

I got myself VMB5's Silver Matte, 19 x 9 Front 35 Offset, 19 x 10.5 Rear 45 offset. I have the SPC rear camber arms, 4 Micheline New tires, but no coils.... It's an itch I'm dying to scratch.

I needed the aluminum under tray for the rough NYC Roads, once I go Low.

That height discrpeancy between the two sides is way more than the suspension is going to settle. I recommend you adjust the front.

If you see a white, slammed, loud, G37S sedan rolling around locally in SA, that's me.

It's my understanding that aftermarket springs "settle" more so than CO's, because the spring is compressing the rubber top-seat. And whatever settling there is to be had, it happens right away after driving the car around, and by virtue of driving the car, not by watching the clock.

I'm no expert on the topic, but there it is anyway.

The car comes with a perceived 1/2" gap difference front to back, but Dopeness' car looks more like 1.5". Yeah, that looks strange, like you're driving around with 500 pounds in the trunk.

Your rear tires are looking pretty dang wide in this pic. What size are you running anyway?

This is my contribution to your 'wet look' pics. Just drove to work in the rain. My wheels are 20X8.5 front, 20X10 rear, Niché Targa.

Thanks, Dopeness. Wheel fitment looks great!

Something that won't cost you much but will really clean up your car is to spend an afternoon and get those yellowed headlights buffed out.

Headlights are definitely on the To Do List along with a lot of other cosmetic issues I have with her.

I was riding about that low on B&G springs, went to coilovers and went up to 26.25" to the fenders arcs and have found that SO much better, no shredding of the Y-pipe and exhaust tips, no worrying about getting hung up on speed humps or steep drives, and just relieves a lot of stress compared to slamming low. Just my 2cs, oh and wheels look nice on your G

Yellowed headlights, pinstripes on the side, tape on the windshield, shredded front bumper, awkward stance... all things that can be fixed. But I'm with Brad, I like the wheels. Good choice in the wheels.

So, I have only had the coilovers on since Saturday 4/8/17 and I work a lot of hours. I have had little time and even less energy to lift my whip, take off 4 wheels, and then adjust the ride height, unfortunately. I will admit that I was VERY concerned about the rears rubbing or scraping the bottom of her but thus far I have had zero bumps, scrapes, or bruises. I am not in love with the look of her as she is considerably higher in the front. Feeling like an old Gasser style hotrod without all of the awesome that goes with Gassers. As I am thinking while typing, I presume I will most likely add 1/2" height to the rear for the just in case coverage and lower the front 1" completely. I spent far too much money on my wheels and tires to tear them up unintentionally, Toyo Proxes meats on my wheels. Hahahaha! Thoughts?

P.S. - I have been building hotrods and muscle cars for 30+ years and had a good stint as a high tolerance race engine machinist and assembler for a CART series racing team, before CART was cancelled so all efforts could be routed to Formula 1. This G is my first tuner. Same concepts, different applications. Lots of fun.

You mentioned the pinstripes and I look at them with distaste often. Are the striped laid out under a clear coat or are they on top? If they are on top, they are gone wicked fast! I debadged my whip during a break at work, I spent a lot of hours the following weekend rubbing a clay bar on her to get rid of the evidence. Overall, it was fairly easy. I would live for there to be more easy, fast, cheap, and attractive mods. The easy bake headlamps though, I'm not great with electronics.

Weather said clear blue perfection. I drove from Bremerton to Woodinville. (90+ minutes) Soon as I hit the east side it DUMPED. got to the spot by the water and it was dry for a few minutes. then dumped again...... then sun came out. Whatever...... did make for some good photos though having the Ceramic Pro on the vinyl wrapped car.

Sounds like you're committed to the details, just need the time to address it. Stripes should be on top of the clear coat unless is was a custom repaint job which is highly unlikely. Should beh pretty easy to remove w/ some heat but will have to address any ghosting that the stripes will leave behind.

As far as the coilover height, like I mentioned, I was about a 1/2" lower than I am now and it was much more prone to scraping and had to be much more concerned w/ every road hazard, unknown parking garages, etc. Just not a very fun way to roll. Running at zero gap now so it still rides low but no scraping problems and a much more enjoyable daily drive.

Take a tape measure and see where you're at now, if you can get an even 26.25" to the fenders I think you'll share my beliefs. Hopefully you'll get some time, if for nothing else than to just enjoy a few brews, lol
