Selling M3 for G37 Possibly
#31
That's very true, yes. It's also why most of us chose a G over the other competition. But I think the OP, coming already from an non-reliable M3, doesn't really care that much about reliability. Seems to me he wants a good driving experience.

Sometimes it's worth the extra $ for that better driving experience. Everytime I drive the A6 3.0T, I'm all smiles. Does it cost more? Sure, but no regrets whatsoever. Again, nothing wrong with the G. Just don't expect it to be on the same level. Do I smile when I drive the G? Sure, but not as much as when I drive the Audi. Just depends on what you are willing to settle with.

Thanks to everyone for your honest feedback and advice. It is nice to know that even though you may own a G that you gave my question some consideration and some even stated don't do it. I am tending to agree with that. I never had that "great" feeling when I owned the '06 Acura TL 6 speed or the '07 Acura TL-S auto. Both left me comfortable but never in lust to drive.
I think if I change from the e46 m3 it will be to a 2009-2011 335i with sport. If the manual in it compares to my M3 manual in terms of shifting enjoyment I may just like the more refined ride and low end power the 335 provides. Thanks to all that posted. The G is a great looking car but I think I would make a compromise based on my past experience of owning a 323, 330 and m3 to move back to a Japanese car again.

I agree with you about BMW Interiors. They need a major re-design. When they do, we'll have nothing to complain about.
I'm on my second G and I wouldn't trade it for the German brands. I've owned a few German cars as well so I have my reasons.

you got some good deals on parts
kw-v3 Part Number: 35285007 MSRP: US$2,299.99
I know that were I live I wouldn't do all that for $4k Not even close unless I went all used.

Honestly, drive a G before you completley rule it out.
Comparing the experience to a TL Vs a 3 is like, ludicrous.
The TL drives nowhere near as nice as the G, IMO as its FWD and just leaves a lot to be desired.
The G and 3 are pretty even IMO, and after have driven several 335is, I just am not sold on them yet.

I agree on this 100%! I've driven 3 different 335i's and one 328i, and I wasn't sold on them over the G, although I loved the power of the twin-turbo inline-6 in the Bimmer. However, the G won it in looks, interior and reliability. But yes, Wannabe is definitely right about this. You can't compare an Acura to a BM and expect the Infiniti to be like an Acura. They're totally different. Infiniti is on par with BMW, so you'd have to drive both to make the clearest choice.
By the way, lets not jack this thread into a discussion on suspension mods, lol. Jus' sayin'.

I'll have to respectfully disagree. I have done 2 mods to my car in terms of handling - 20x9 inch wheels (255/35/20) and KW variant 3 coilovers.
I drove Ortega Hwy (very curvy road) behind a 530i sedan and I could corner way faster and tighter than he could.
My ride is a little stiffer than it was with the stock sport suspension and 18 inch wheels, but not by that much.
I have to admit, I've never owned a bmw and I don't care to. The G is 99% the car a bmw is, at 75% the price. If I were to hit the lotto, I still wouldn't buy one. Prolly go with an Audi or a Mercedes.
YMMV.
