you will be happy. the G is a nice car, but is in no league of the S4. the DSG tranny alone is worth trading up to an Audi. Not to mention the superb handling, steering response, and responsiveness of the motor/tranny. Interior is beautiful, as well as the exterior. subtle and classy, not loud with "look at me" like a M3.

A couple functional things you might already be aware of, that are on my list of first things to do if I end up getting an S4 are:

DIY intercooler radiator screen.
Buy VAG-COM and save an AUTOSCAN of all initial settings.
Enable the oil temperature digital display via VAG-COM.
Buy an oil dipstick.

Those are on my list. Thanks. I figured I would add the screen when I replace my grill in the next month or so, and I just checked with my brother and I think I can use his VAG-COM. I did not realize I could save the initial settings, but that is a good idea. I will definitely buy the dipstick at some point, and maybe the R8 oil cap....

I'm curious to know what the reliability of Audi's is like. I am very unfamiliar with the brand.

It'd be nice if you let us know your true feelings, and any issues, after a year of ownership. Unless you ditch us for an Audi forum... LOL!

they are actually not that bad. sure, if you were to compare the number of occurrences, the Audi will probably have more compared to the Infiniti. However, they may not be mechanical. Audi, and most Euro brands, tend to have more issues with smaller items, such as a broken window regulator or O2 sensor going bad. Is it considered a breakdown? No. Is it more of an annoyance, sure. But overall, the quality of these cars are not as atrocious as people make them to be. Do your regular maintenance and they will be fine. I've had 2 VWs and on our 2nd Audi, all of which had no major problems that were considered a mechanical breakdown.

Will your S4 have the fantastic open grain wood trim inside?

Infiniti's done just fine w/ the G37 (except for the sorry-a$$ paint), and I think it's everything it wants to be. But like you mentioned the IPL is a joke from a performance & marketing standpoint, you get basically nicer wheels, a tuned exhaust and almost exactly the same performance specs for a 48k sticker, LMAO! They totally dropped the ball on a golden opportunity to get their IPL lineup off to a good start. The folks that are interested in the "special" higher performance versions aren't going to be fooled by a few fancy add-ons, it's all about the numbers and the IPL is a laughingstock in that regard, compared to Ss/Ms/AMGs/IS-Fs, etc.

Love your G, man! Looks good. But, hey, the S4 will be better. Faster, better interior, and especially that dual-clutch tranny--that's just amazing. Even Jeremy Clarkson loved the Audi dual-clutch system, so you're bound to be amazed. I'd do your trade in a heartbeat!

I just read through that article. It brings up a good point. the VQ is indeed a great motor (I don't know too much about it). But it does get a little rough around redline. Definitely not as honed as the 335i N54

A 2012 x5 just whipped past me yesterday on highway, turbo is no joke.
