To begin, I just want to thank the current DIY posted by 180 Customs in the DIY section; it's very clear and succinct. Well done! Anyways, I used 5 total black garbage bags to ensure no plasti-dip would splatter on the car other than the given area I wanted it to be on. I did roughly 15 coats (light) to ensure no dripping or sagging. I was a little surprised by the "textured" look the plasti-dip gave - I like it! Despite, I was initially very nervous about potential residues that might be left; there wasn't any. The initial few coats were very light - I let them dry for about 5 minutes each. Each coat after consisted of swift but steady strokes left to right, in various directions (all left to right or vice versa) to ensure that all the nooks and crannies were coated. Peeling was a bit nerve racking; I thought I would pull some of the rubbery material off the actual emblems, but because the emblems are not directly on the paint (they're stickered on), it allowed the plasti-dip to pull around the emblems. You honestly CAN'T mess it up, even if you pull it off quickly without being careful. Anyways, the end product is perfect; looks professional. If you're hesitant on using Plasti-Dip, DON'T BE! It's extremely easy! Make sure you line your garbage bags on ALL sides of the 8x11 or so area you're plasti-dipping to ensure that none slips under the garage bags and onto other places on your car.

Ran out to take a few clicks off my phone. Was raining...so the second image has a few speckles on it that look like imperfections. They're not though . I'm VERY happy with the results

 

Plasti dip is pretty much nooob proof, worked great for my wheels. Until I had to clean them lol

I just did my grille and it literally took 20 minutes; 3 coats. Infact, I like how the matte matches the lower grille opposed to replacing it with glossy. Great stuff for 6$!

 

So did it rub off when you tried to clean them?

I am thinking of getting some stock 17" or 18" wheels for winter and have thought of plasti-dipping them black, but if it wont last, i will look for other solutions.

 

I would think if you adequately clean the surfaces then washing wont be an issue later on. I've had my front grill done for a year now, many washes, winter and it's as good as the day I sprayed it.

 

+1 on the ease and appearance.

It takes longer than 20 minutes of course if you proceed according to the instructions. The can says to let each coat dry for 30 minutes before re-applying.

 

Works best in layers and I would not recommend it on stock wheels.

 

Did you remove your Mt Fuji symbol before you dipped it?

 

That's a big fat negative Mike! You don't need to removed annny of the emblems. Just have to be careful when taking the excess overspray off.

 

has anyone tried putting clearcoat over plastidip to make it shiny and easier to be cleaned?

 

I did, it did not change very much as far as shiny goes. But it did make it a bitch to take off

 

I sprayed over it actually. I took a small toothpick once it tried and picked at the inner portion of the Mt Fuji symbol, very carefully. Once I got a grip, the plasti-dip came right off
