Just an FYI -- Valve stems with premature wear, may cause blowout

...took my car in for oil/rotation and the service guy discovered all four of my TPM stalks were overly worn/cracking, and "could have caused a blow out" had I not replaced them.

It was covered under warranty. I have 35k on the ODO, I checked my wife's '08 but she only has 12k .. her's are normal, no significant wear.

Just and fyi, I suppose if the guy was right, it could have been bad to blow out a tire at highway speeds (most of my driving).

Thx

Wow, crazy.

So when its time to buy new tires do you keep the stems and the tpm sensors and use them with new tires?
I used to buy new stems and tires every time, this was before I got this car or any car with tpms.

PS.
Change title of thread, it is very non-descriptive and lazy.

I hate non descriptive thread titles too. I thought it was just me.

Good info though.

I really love the ones that appear to be a statement and are really a question. You go in thinking you are going to see an answer or solution.

I live in Chicago --

the car is garaged in my home overnight, parked outdoors or in "open" garages while at work ..

dunno, never had TPMS before.

The dealership thought it was odd, they apparently hadn't seen this before (for what that's worth)

What part of the "stalks" were worn and cracking?? The TPMS sensors are like 85% covered when assembled. In picture 1, this is a TPMS with all parts attached. In picture 2, it has the parts removed. Notice the larger metal cover that screws on to secure the sensor actually covers more than half the stalk. After you add the valve stem cap there's very little "stalk" exposed. Which part was worn or cracked?
