$1,000 to take lights apart and paint 2 different colors, and do LED mods. If I just want the lights cracked open and the chrome painted black it was like $500 - $700.

The painted look is totally different for sure but I hear what you're saying about getting something done that is cheaper and reversible. That being said the painted is a whole step up and I know for sure you are way way off on the price at least if you have Raul do them.

The prices I quoted are from body / mod shops and not from other forum members doing them. I wasn't going to pay 180customs and pull them myself and ship them so I called around and found 2 shops to give me quotes. Most the people I called basically said "no" and wouldn't even attempt it. I guess it IS pretty crazy to ask a shop to take expensive factory lights, crack them open to paint and then re-seal them. Not many are willing to risk the liability. It's really not that important to me, and I don't want to do any mod that can't be reversed quickly and easily. I don't keep cars for very long, and most potential future buyers will not want painted headlights.

I like what you're doing with the car. Simple things like having the chrome top and bottom on the grill looks good with the unmasked chrome of the headlights and chrome lip on the wheels. I give it a

And I have to agree with your choice of going with overlays on the headlights right now. Nothing permanent has been done, and you can always decide to paint later if you feel like spending the money.

It was on my coupe. I was thinking of grabbing some because I found a set brand new on craigslist for $400, but right now they aren't worth it.

Today I got my LED bulbs to upgrade my entire interior and my trunk, reverse, and license plate bulbs. Easy, pretty cheap, and instant gratification mod! I highly recommend.

I'm writing a DIY that'll be up tonight with more photos and bulb size list for the 209 sedan.
