Last year on my first long trip, about 4,000 miles I got 28.2 averaging 80 on the Interstate and 70 on the 2 lanes. That was with the a/c on full time and completely loaded down with luggage.
I was so impressed with how much stuff we managed to load into the G, for the long trip, that I intend to take a picture of it unloaded behind the car when I get home from this trip.
Before the G I had 2 Jeep GC's in a row, that we used for road trips, so there never was a concern about fitting all the luggage.
Now I have almost 11,000 trouble free miles on the G.
In the morning we take off on a 3,700 mile trip, so I'll post my mileage when we get back.

 

Cruise set at 70 the whole time. Only sped up to about 75 to pass people occasionally. This is hand calculated - not using the readout in the car. The two 100% highway tanks I had last week on my trip to and then back from PA I got 28.3 and 28.5 MPG.

The G Machine (Infiniti G37) | Fuelly - don't pay attention to the city/highway I don't keep track of that.

 

Keep in mind a lot of stations have ethanol blended gas and you'll get about 10% worse mileage w/ that crap. Those 29mpgs were on straight 91 octane (no ethanol)

 

guys - US gallons (3.78L) are smaller than imperial gallons (4.546L). perhaps some of the high fuel economy numbers are using imperial?

i.e. on my last tank i drove 344.3 miles (100% city commute) and filled with 17.45 US gallons = 19.7 mpg(US). this is equivalent to 344.3 miles on 14.5 Imp gallons = 23.7 mpg(Imp).

since most guys on here are american the assumed gallon would be US, wich results in lower MPG claims.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been monitoring the forum for a year. Glad to join the ranks of G owners. It is always wonderful when something exceeds your expectations. It is great to see so many folks are repeat owners. That tells me I am unlikely to become dissappointed when the inital ownership rush wears off.

 

I have 10 inches wide tires on the back and 9.5 on front. I get 20.5 mix driving and around 27 to 28 highway . make sure to reset the mpg readings before doing a highway ride.

 

if you want to show the best mpg on the freeway, get to s steady speed and then reset the calculator i can get up to 38 mpg so just be quick and do it stealthy like Get some good tires on that thing too and you will notice huge difference.

 

My G is indeed enjoyable to drive and handles road challenges pretty well. That said, it still pales in comparision to the power and handling of my C6 (2006 Corvette), as well as the excellent gas mileage of the vette.

 

That's not comparing apples to oranges, at all. *sarcasm*

 

I, too, enjoyed driving some of muscle car era hot rods of the late 60s/early 70s. Kicking the G into hyper-drive always brings back fond memories! Congrats and enjoy!

OK. So now I've had the car for about 2 weeks, and a couple of tanks of gas. I look for excuses to go for a ride. (Honey need anything at the store?). Tonight I'm driving from the NH border down to Princeton NJ to pick up my daughter, and I am looking forward to it as quality time alone with my G. When I get in and press start the interior does its little synchronized dance of pulling me closer to the dash while the pod and wheel drop and extend into just the perfect postion and the mirror settles into place. Gets me every time. That wonderful engine comes alive and the rear camera and sonar guide me out of my garage while the lights automatically flip off (if its daytime) and before I make it to the street I am already enthralled. I don't even have to put my foot in it for the car to rapidly pull up to and beyond any local speed limit, all the while exuding that lowkey rumble which only hints at the power that can send it rushing madly to the horizon with just a tap of my foot. Compared to my SUV it handles with such precision that just taking a corner or curve at average speeds puts me exactly where I want to be, and like the Grey Ghost I've dubbed it, the G slips in and out of slots in the highway traffic before anyone seems to realize it is there. Should I need to leap ahead of a few cars or an aggressive lane blocker, all I have to do is hit the down paddle and I know I can blast ahead of all but the stoutist muscle cars and exotics, especially when suprise is a factor. The G turns even a boring highway commute into a quality experience, and a winding back road into Disneyland. All this and I am pulling 22 mpg (mixed) and have a safe AWD machine for the snows of winter. Yes, yes, I know I am sounding like an enraptured schoolboy, but this car is an absolute joy to own and drive.

 

I just love reading that....

 

Hard not to feel enraptured at first. It wears off a bit, but I still love mine after four months, as well.

 

I still love mine after more than 2 years and almost 60K miles.
