In Kansas....$580 for property tax and $40 for registration and fees..... Both are paid annually, though the property tax should decrease about $130 next year. Also pay sales tax of 7.3% on the monthly lease payment (or the purchase price).

times have changed... remember, driving is a privilege. It's as much as paying for cigarettes-- they are $11 bucks a pack here in Long Island, NY.... people are not stopping...

No sales taxes, but we pay ownership tax each year which is calculated as 2.1% of 75% of the MSRP of the vehicle (At least in Adams county). Plus other random fees. Then they tack on 2 months for the time you were using the temp tag.

We have really crappy roads, and they do a decent job of keeping them better than roads I've seen in NY/NJ. Pricey to live in an all weather state.

Property tax on my 2010 is going to be $511 this year, plus $28 for registration. I'm in South Carolina.

Only paid $300 in sales tax when I bought it though.

you guys pay property tax on vehicles? crazy. nothing like that in Canada, although we do have higher income tax.

i pay ~$40/year for vehicle registration but that's built into the standard insurance premium fees.

In South Carolina the max you pay in sales tax on a vehicle purchase is $300... then you pay property tax annually based on the value of the car (which goes down over time of course).

Registration is $28 annually, plus the property tax.

Got mine today. $400.00 even for my 2009 sedan in California....
By the way, I remember when it was ~$11.00 and they rightfully called it a registration FEE, now it's a TAX based on value. When did we vote on that? No mercy on an old senior citizen!

In CO they call it an "ownership tax". So not only do I have to pay for the car, I have to pay extra for the right to own a brand new car.

Hate to say it, but the situation is bound to get worse for fees like this. States like Colorado are suffering because of the recession and are struggling to bring in every bit of revenue. And some plans to reduce the national debt will shift more expenses onto the states. It's clearly more expensive to drive a new car.

SMH... The more i read, The worse it gets. Now people are paying property taxes on vehicles too!!! Not to mention ownership tax. How does that work? The cost of living may be high down here but thankfully we don't have to deal with that. And to think I was complaining about our 7% sales tax in Miami. Makes you appreciate it when you hear what others are going through.
