Odometer Manipulation

I was wondering if the Consult software used for engine diagnotics on Nissan and Infiniti vehicles can in anyway manipulate or change the odometer reading on your vehicle? Like roll the actual mileage back so that it appears to have less miles on the vehicle than it actually has. I know this was possible on the old analog roller type odometers, of course using a different method. From what I understand and have seen of the Consult software is that it has many features that only trained Technicians can access and use properly or (improperly). Has anybody heard of any such thing or is this just rumor?

Pretty sure that's not possible. You'd have to get deep into the cars ECU

Not a very good idea even if you had the ability to do so...could result is some real big legal issues if not fully disclosed to a future buyer.

I'm sure it's been done before. But that's something people would never talk about.

Just dont do it. Dont screw anyone over. Not to mention that you will be in serious trouble once the buyer finds out. They can sue you in the federal court.

The Federal Truth in Mileage Act (TIMA) makes odometer fraud a felony.

As long as you have no dealership mileage services on record go for it, roll it back to 3,000 miles!

Thanks for the responses. I was aware of the legality issues just wondering if their are any unscrupulous Infiniti dealers out there that would roll back mileage on a loaner then sell it to some unsuspecting chap as a new vehicle.

Unfortunately, it's super easy to purchase such tools online, or even download an odometer rollback program to your laptop, then patch it into your car. I've heard of some people rolling back the mileage to keep their car under warranty.

Check out this vid:

True, but if someone asked you if microwaving a cat was possible, would you simply reply "yes"?
