I’ve been driving 57 years. I got my share of tickets well into my thirties when I drove like many of you youngsters around here. But for the past 24 years, I’ve only gotten one, which I have to admit, was in my G37 two years ago, doing 55 in a 40 mph zone.

First warning/ticket in about 6 years

I just received my first warning in a few years, while driving on a 2 lane highway in rural WI. I saw the charger behind some trees and I knew I was toast. Just driving about 10 miles over. I used to use a radar detector, but find just don't drive REAL fast, especially out of the twin cities of MSP, and you don't get into trouble.

Haven't gotten any speeding tickets yet... I contribute that to me bringing my radar detector from my old car to the dealership with me. Has saved my a$$ plenty of times though. I also work in law enforcement so I usually get a slap on the wrist. But every so often i'll run into an officer who feels he has something to prove.

About 3 weeks. I've got 6 tickets total since I got the car a year ago. Two of those were for speeding. If it weren't for the Escort 9500ix, it would probably be more. I got put on deferred adjudication(driving probation), and then my dumb-*** got two more tickets within a week. I'm using up half my vacation at work to go fight tickets. My wife is going to murder me if I get another one anytime soon. I need some kind of 12-step program for driving too fast. I don't do drugs anymore, MPH is all I have left to get my endorphins going!

First trip out of town on the highway after picking up the car!

I always drive faster than the posted limit if the conditions are clear and little traffic. I also pay enough attention that I have always seen the police before they see me.

This time, I was fiddling with the cruise control for the first time trying to figure out why the radar system would not activate. I was spending a lot of time with my eyes only partly on the road and trying to look at the controls and dash display. My passenger was reading the manual to me and I was getting frustrated that it wouldn't work. Nailed by a crusier in the median of a rural expressway.

FYI, the radar system will not acttivate if snow mode is on...

P.S. the cop kindly reduced the ticket to a minimum fine (and no points) because the computer did show that I had owned the car for only a couple of days.

P.S.S. no ticket in more than a decade before that. The only other time I got a speeding ticket was a similar situation where a vibration was occurring and I was trying to see if it got worse as you got faster or was centred around a certain speed. Got nailed during the "see if gets worse when you go faster stage." That was due to some custom wheels and tires not being properly installed on an Audi and again I was distracted by the problem.

Yes, we still called them horseless carriages back then.

Seriously, I learned to drive on a driving school’s ’53 Ford with three-speed manual on the column. It had none of the features we find in modern cars, but it was still fun to drive.

That's my story... been there, done that. Had a mini-van, too. Now 51 and the kids are grown and gone. Love the power, thankful of no tickets - yet.
