08 G35x v. 10 G37x
08 G35x v. 10 G37x
Well, I'm all chatty today, and having about 2k miles on my new G37, I'd like to share and compare.
There's the obvious. The cars aren't all that different. You already know about the backup camera, sonar (*sonar*!!) and minor exterior adjustments (think fog lights), so no need to belabor that kewl stuff. As for the interior, I had the rosewood, now I have maple, and let me tell you, although the maple's high gloss, it's obviously wood, not plastic. KWIM?
So down and dirty. First, the good. The '10 gets better mileage. Only a few mpg, at best, but there it is. Also, the car seems a bit quieter at speed. This could be just the tires. And, finally, in commando mode, foot to the floor, I do have a sense the car is quicker. Perhaps this is just a head game, but there it is.
Now for the not so good: (1) throttle response; (2) transmission.
The throttle response on the 08 was divine. A light touch delivered calm, sane, family-friendly acceleration. Push the pedal a fifth of the way down, and now it's not Sunday anymore, it's time to drive. A quarter of the way down, and I'm quickly around the Camry driver who intends to merge at 55 mph. One third down, I might have to lift before the on-ramp ends. Half way down and the lady in the SUV is glaring at me. Three quarters down and I'm hoping no cops are anywhere near. To the floor? Both hands on the wheel, knuckles look like I've put Crest whitening strips on them.
On the 10? The throttle response has basically three modes. Grade school bus between foot off and foot 4/10ths down, Lincoln LS merging on the freeway when half down, and GTFO of my way after that. I preferred the response on the 08 and hope the reflash posted here will make a diff.
As for the tranny, in the 08 it was smoother all the way around accelerating or decelerating. In the 10, I have experienced what others have said. I'm hoping that with a bit more break in, this smooths out, as others have suggested it will.
As for paint issues, I haven't had any yet -- no chipping at all. But I haven't had many 18 wheelers spewing stones in my face. I'll keep an update on this.

Lol nice descriptions. I have an 07 G35x and currently been in a loaner 2010 G37x.
Do you notice the suspension is softer on the 10? Also I feel the 07 sits lower than the 10. I do like the increase in MPG but I hate how it's constantly shifting harshly. Low end, I feel the 5AT pulls harder, top end obviously I feel the 10 pull harder. I like the fog lights and the new console... its sweet.

Warp: You supplied a "right on" description of the differences in of a 08 G35X and 10 G37X. I concur exactly, except I had an 07, which from what I experienced while driving 08 loaners back then, it had a very sensitive throttle from start compaared to the "adjusted" throttle repsonse in the 08s. But all in all, a very accurate and comic description. Answering the caveat, (I started and contributed from time to time - another Thread about the 7 Sd Auto Tranny), it does get better with mileage, BUT continues its Jerky, quirky behavior at slower stop n Go traffic speeds. It bucks, and gear hunts too much - the 3rd, 4th & 5th gears up and down shifts at 40-20/15 mph DON'T get better, IMO. I've got 4800 miles now. It continues to AMAZE me that Infiniti has offered nothing to reflash the ECU and/or the drivetrain to correct this. Keep complaining to your Dealers, I do !! INFINITI CAN YOU HEAR US NOW !!!
^ i'm not familiar with infiniti, as this is my first one, but from what i've read around, and if my memory's serving me correctly...there are MINOR, very very very very very minor changes. nothing to do with the fascia or anything though.
Made the exact same transition, no complaints. The car drives exactly as I would like it to drive. DS takes care of spirited driving although I rarely use it in DS even when my "spirit" is high. Paddle shifters can also be applied if need be. Miss the 08 though, that car was great but would not go back.
2010=2011 except for option packages and Limited Edition and minor front fascia tweeks. BTW the new black color on the Limited Editions is awesome, when the light hits it from a certain angle it turns red, so its like 2 colors in one. Only things I did not like on the Limited Edition were the red interior seats (black would have been better) and the rear spoiler, prefer no spoiler back there, as in the stock models.
