I'm taking my '09 G37s sedan in tomorrow for it's 15K mile service. What TSB's should I be sure to inquire about? I want to make sure any potential issues are addressed while I'm putting miles on the loaner...

 

Ask the service guy, they can check for TSBs that your car needs from its VIN #.

 

well that's just it though....I don't necessarily trust the service department/dealership to do the right thing and apply the TSB's unless I bring it to their attention that I know about them.

You have a good point there. When we bought our 03 it was one of the first G's out of the gate here in the states and came with several hidden issues, most were minor, but nonetheless needed addressing.

I followed G35 Driver and Fresh Alloy G35 religiously to keep up on the TSB's. I would always bring these up in conversation with the dealer during routine maintenance. In some cases they were aware of the specific TSB's and stated it was an automatic fix, but in some they were only offered by customer complaint or request. In a couple of instances they didn't even know about the specific TSB's, but through some searching found they did indeed exist.

So in my experience it is not wise to expect the dealer to automatically inform you of all TSB's. They can often be based on customer complaint only. Some of us may have a legitimate complaint and not recognize it until told of a specific TSB. This happened more than once with us, "just thought that's the way it is suppose to be", then found out through a TSB that it was a valid complaint.

Sorry I don't have any current TSB's to share, only 10 days into our new ride, but I can assure you I'll be watching for them, too!

 

Just dropped it off and brought up the "brake judder" TSB and the "rough 4-3 downshift" TSB just to make sure it entered into the conversation. I even had them printed out so they now know I mean business and am watching this kind of stuff. Now I'm in their loaner, a 2010 G37 journey. The brakes are sooooo much smoother than my '09s and the shifts feel smoother & more buttery as well in both D and DS. Hopefully those two TSB's will be reviewed, addressed, and I'll be on my way.

So I picked my car up yesterday and as suspected, I qualified for the "brake judder" TSB. What bugs the eff out of me is that they had to order the parts and I will now have to go back. Damn dealer service centers should stock at least the parts for one repair at all times so as not to inconvenience their customers. Arrrg. So now they're going to install the new backing plates (that they are waiting to arrive) and turn the rotors. That too bothers me, for "premature wear" why are they going to turn the rotors which results in thinning of the rotor.....when they should REPLACE the prematurely warped rotors. If this never happened, the rotors wouldn't have to be turned and thus wouldn't be thinned, even by a small fraction. That further reduces the life of that rotor which should never have happened in the first place. Anyone with experience on this....do I have a stance to push for new rotors alltogether when I take it back in?

Not to mention the black screw I just found on the floor of the passenger side....no idea where that goes....so I've got to go back again before I go back again.

S vs. non-s quick review. So I had their loaner for the entire day, a 2010 G37 Journey with all of 87 miles on it. Wow, what a different car in the non-s configuration. Albeit the vehicle all around was a quieter driving car & power is equal, good grief it wandered in the lanes, had way too much body roll in the corners, suspension felt soft & kind of mushy even though it felt somewhat firm over speedbumps, and the steering just didn't have nearly the positive feel & feedback as the S does. On the plus side, the brakes felt very good, the shifts were buttery smooth, and it sure smelled good.

I couldn't wait to get back in my S seats, hit the paddles, feel the road again, and drift a couple corners on the backroads home.

 

I had mine done last week as well. 15K miles on the '09 and finally the brakes feel smooth. Thye turned my rotors and replaced my pads, too - would rather have new ones but what can you say - the TSB actually says to turn them if they can.

 

the dealer charge $300 for the 15K, no? if you're interested, i can help you through the major 15K points. it's really next to nothing that the dealerships do for the price. routine inspections, they do all the time, even if you take the car in for warranty work. other 15K points include the engine filters + in-cabin air filter. cakewalk.

TSB was done, however I swear I can still feel a bit of a wobble in the steering wheel when braking at freeway speeds. If it gets any worse I am going back in to demand new rotors...Of which, I may make a play to be credited the cost of their rotors, and put on the Adam's drilled/slotted instead.

 

well, yep, I absolutely feel a wobble/vibration while decelerating from freeway speeds...it happens from about 42-37mph and clearly wobbles like warped rotors. Just sent this message to the Service Advisor.....

Hope this message finds you doing well. A couple of weeks ago your team performed this TSB on my ’09 G37s sedan. I am continuing to feel the steering vibrations/steering wheel wobble under braking and I am very frustrated. This occurs under braking from about 42-37mph. To be perfectly honest, this is not acceptable considering your service center just performed this TSB and turned the front rotors. It is either a poor turning job, or the rotors are shot. Either way, I request another appointment to resolve this and request that the front rotors be replaced altogether to get the solid feel back that I had prior to this premature rotor warping taking place. I simply do not want to turn these rotors again, further reducing the longevity of the rotors…for a situation that was a result of poor design in the first place.<o></o>

wish me luck on this one......no way I'm settling for yet another turning of the rotors....... Anyone had any experience like this after getting the brake judder TSB performed? If so, what did they do for you to save a positive customer service outcome?

 

got the call from the service department yesterday.....full rotor & pad replacement set for next week! Obviously they are willing to do a full replacement if the first repair go-around doesn't fully resolve the brake judder/premature rotor warp issue. SO, if you have had this TSB performed and are not fully satisfied with how your brakes feel, call them back and make the official request for a complete replacement. I actually suggest that your request be sent via email so you have documentation to fall back on. I just wish they would replace with drilled and/or slotted rotors but oh well....new ones are going on so I can't complain to much.
