If you boys can't play nice then I'm calling both of your mothers to come pick you up and take you home.

Gotta say I'm w/ majin ssj eric on this one (not the diseased part, but the rest). I've had upwords of 30 vehicles over the years and none have ever had any oil-related problems. I've always changed oil & filter every 3k w/ dino and 5k w/ Syn in all my vehicles. Never had one that had any noticeable oil consumption and I do drive my vehicles harder than avg.
I do a 1k change on brand new vehicles just to get the factory drainoil and break-in debris cleaned out. I'll let others do the oil analysis, if my vehicle is running like a top and no oil consumption that's all the analysis I need.
Oil is SOOO much better than oil even 10 years ago, just don't see the point about getting all obsessed over oil.

My G37 is lucky enough to be getting premium gas so im not too worried about oil, but i think the 1000 mile mark is a good time to get rid of the factory stuff. What kind of oil should i start and stick with? syn? penz? castrol? 20/50? 10/30? Do yall recommend taking this car to wal-mart for oil changes or the stealership (i cant change a light bulb so please dont recommend do-it-yorself)?

thanks guys! BTW is this an OIL monster?

Don't know if that's indeed THE Oil Monster but it could pass for one, lol.
I use Mobil1 Synthetic and Mobil1 oil filters.
Do you have any friends that are decent mechanics that could change your oil? It's really not much harder than changing a light bulb though
The reason I don't like those quick lube places is the high turnover those places have. You never know if the guy changing your oil just barely passed the "change a lightbulb test". Soem of the car dealerships have oil change deals regardless of brand of car. I'd much rather take it to a dealership or a reputable local repair shop than a quick-lube or WalMart.
Some places let you bring in your own oil too if they don't carry the brand you want to use.

I've learned to do it myself, but my local dealership charges $30 for labor on an oil change if you bring your own oil and filter in. Just talk to a service rep at your dealer and ask for a quote.

As for filters, hard go wrong with Purolator PureOnes. Part number 14612 matches OEM spec perfectly, and 14610 will fit and is a little larger, i.e. "taller." You should be able to find those for ~$7 each.

You'll find the best oil deals at Walmart in the 5 quart and 1 gallon jugs. Wide selection of Pennzoil, Castrol, Valvoline, Quaker State etc. Lots of sales and promotions at Walmart too. For example, as of a couple weeks ago, you could buy a 5 qt jug of Pennzoil Platinum for $15.50. Regularly, it's $20.50.

Owners manual recommends 5W30, but 10W30 or 0W30 will work better under certain driving conditions/climates. Using 10W30 and 0W30 won't void your warranty.

Lovin our G37 Journey

We picked up our 09 G37 last Saturday after testing an 08 G35. We never test drove the G37 as it was still going through the multi-point inspection. Two days later I punched it and fell in love. Almost seems like kickin a bull in his privates and holding on for the ride... Restraint has to be at the forefront when I climb in...
