I experienced that also in the first week or so. Wrote it off as the brakes, I think.

daMayor: Don't laugh, those things have happened. People have found Mice living in the engine compartments - I know few long Islanders that have told me the story. A Car Guy on the Radio ("The Car Doctor", really good btw, on WOR Radio 710) has mentioned a few times from callers. His way to stop the rodents, who like the warm engines for nesting [they will leave and come back at night], is to apply Mothballs around the garage and in the garage. Most rodents hate the scent.

Did you have chance to look into my cousin who was a head mechanic at Massapequa infiniti : Tony Mat____

Dude, I've had 20 new cars including a 350Z and never has anyone of them smelled like that. It's a 1st.

had the exact same thing.
this is my 2nd motor, the 1st did not have the smell.
I wonder if it is some sort of lubricant /sealant coating that is burning off. Just a guess on my part.

It's stuff they spray onto the car to prevent corrosion from exposure during transport from Japan to here.

Most imported (manufactured overseas) cars do that. My STI did the same thing.

SFG37 is right. All new cars have the rust inhibitor Cosmoline sprayed on the undercarriage. The smell is the Cosmoline burning off of the exhaust. You may not have noticed it in the past, but they all have it.
