My lease on a 2008 G35xS (I love this car) is up next month, and going to buy a 2010 G37xS w/ Prem, Navi, Sport, Aero and 18" 9-spokes w/ a black grill.

I really want to have a clearbra installed - should I get the car detailed prior to installation, or can I just have it done right after it comes off the dealer lot? Does a new car have wax/polish on it when it comes off the lot? Would a clearbra prevent swirl marks?

Also, can I have a clearbra put on the grill? Is the black grill more resistant to chipping than the stock chrome, and if not what color are the chip marks? I know it's a lot of questions, but I'd really appreciate your help. TIA!

 

Get the body totally detailed if you're a novice IMO. You don't need to cb your grill. It's easier to replace. Rock chips on the bumper suck. I'd consider doing the rear bumper too from previous experience.

If you want it right off the lot, talk to your dealer see if they can have it done. Otherwise once you roll out of the dealer you will totally need the exterior cleaned prior to installation. The clear bra will eventually get nicked up but the point of it is to save your paint.

No, the Clearbra is too expensive for what it's worth to be applied everywhere. You should consider Ventureshield since it has less of an orange peel effect (i.e. less prone to turn yellow/orange). Infiniti already installed two tiny pieces in front of the rear wheels on the sills. I got my whole bumper done because the paint on the bumper chips so easily and my car is white so any stone chips will show up as black dots. Furthermore, the front bumper literally covers the whole front end of the car and the hood is basically on a horizontal plane so I didn't want to spend another $250. I got my car detailed before installing the Ventureshield. At a minimum, you should have your car clayed beforehand.

PS: It's not just money that makes a difference when it comes to installing the Clearbra/Ventureshield. These films can scratch easily (i.e. scrapping with fingernails thinking it's a plastic film) so you can see swirl marks on them if you are not careful. Also, putting the film on does alter how the light shines on the body panel so if you put these films on partially on any body panels (i.e. part of the hood), you do notice a difference in luster under white lights. Hence, I only did the complete bumper.
