The 5 year package you purchased is the application of a simple $15 paint sealant, which they will reapply when you bring the car in annually in order to keep the "warranty". Read the fine print.

Sorry to be a bummer, but I want you to know the truth about those sealant packages...they are a huge waste of money, and a 99% profit item for the dealer.
The entire car has the same surface effect of the 'ripoff paint sealant'. I only really got the protection package (at a big discount) simply for the peace of mind that ANY stain on the interior upholstery will be replaced no questions asked. Driving home today in heavy rain the water beaded up like no tomorrow and will require minimal cleaning/wipedown to make it look great again. I have to say that I can put up with a mottled effect when looking at the finish on a super close up when it will look fantastic for 99.99% of anyone one else seeing it from more than 10ft away.

You really should temper your comments regarding 'my car was repainted and you got screwed' before knowing for sure what's going on. While I can appreciate you wanting to spread the 'truth' about the ripoff paint sealant (perhaps the modern day Rusty Jones undercoating ripoff), I'm pretty sure that this was not the case here.

In any case, thanks again for trying to be helpful, but I have to respectfully disagree on your assumptions regarding the sealant and hidden damage.

Please don't take it personally. I've been an avid car detailer (hobby - not professional) for about 15 years, and I've done a lot of self education on these topics. I can tell you with relative certainty the following, and it's up to you to take it or leave it.

1. No sealant will result in the appearance of orange peel on a car. If it does, something is wrong.

2. If that trunk wasn't repainted, you have a horrible HORRIBLE factory finish on that panel. The rest of your car looks within limits from the photos you posted.

3. It's common for cars to get minor damage in transit and be repaired at port. When this happens, it can/will be sold as new without any note of the damage. There's nothing wrong with this, unless it was done incorrectly.

4. Read the paperwork that came with the sealant package, and you will see that your end of the deal is bringing the car in at least annually for the sealant to be reapplied. If not, your sealant is definitely an outlier, as I've never known a sealant to last more than a year in the best conditions.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but rather trying to help others that are on the fence with spending the money on "protection packages". They are nothing you can't do on your own (and better) with a can of scotchgard and a bottle of any synthetic sealant. You have a beautiful car, and I know you'll enjoy it. I was only trying to arm you with information in case you choose to do something about what appears to be a bad repaint in your photos. My apologies if my tone sounded any other way.

Here is a zoomed photo of my trunklid for reference. This was after a rain today, so any "noise" is dried rainwater and trace dirt. You would very clearly see massive orange peel at this scale if it were common to our cars. Good luck!

15951 is right. All you bought was sealent that you could have applied yourself and sealant dosent cause orange peel. I dont know about it being repainted, my trunk has orange peel too. But you did get taken on the sealant "package". Don't take offense, just chalk it up as one of those 'live and learned" kind of things.

Beautiful car, regardless.

that trunk def. looks repainted judging by the orange peel and the ultimate protection package sounds like they pulled a fast one on you. try leaving a black car alone for 6 months without detailing and see if it shines (i would try to cancel that package and get your money back for that) anyway nice car though! front end looks aggressive.

ace72 - I forgot to ask: Are those wheels unique to the 6MT? I haven't seen those on an S yet.

Thanks.

**EDIT: I'm guessing those are the 9 spoke optional 18" wheels, correct?**

I can't win. You are totally right. The factory paint is the worst, I got screwed, and I should crawl in a hole and die.

I thought I said quite plainly in my previous post that I only got this dealer option for the interior protection warranty. Maybe that will also be a total screw job too, and I'm bound to lose no matter what.

Thanks for the killjoy, have a nice day.

I couldn't have been too much nicer in my reply, and now I sincerely regret trying to be of any help to you. If you're totally closed to constructive input, say so up front in the future so I can avoid wasting my time on you.

Good luck with the car.

Ah question... can he not bring that in for a warrenty repair. That is some serious finish defect there. They could order a new trunk or get it repainted since it seems issolated to the trunk.

If there's nothing they would do they can surely do a butt load of free services or offer some other form of compensation.

Congrats and welcome; don't worry about the orange peel comments, most dark paints show orange peel from certain angles.

Wow! A little sensitive are we? Dude, you got raped on the "protection package", exterior or interior, plain and simple. Sorry you don't want to hear it. All of those "packages" are pure profit for the dealer, do your research and find out on your own, or turn a blind eye, your choice. Either way, if you think the "orange peel" effect has anything to do with sealant, you are grossly uninformed. And yes, Infiniti paint is "the worst"(or at least ranks right up there). Anyways, again, great looking ride and congrats. You go ahead and "crawl and a hole and die", and I'll take the G off your hands

That's one sexy *** beast!!!! And those rims are 1000% better than I though...just one thing though, and that's your Trunk. Basically what ever accident the car had, the dealership did a HORRIBLE job trying to conceal it with that paint job. On the bright side, since the car is about 2 days old, do what I always do and raise hell at the dealer to fix on a new trunk or get it repainted professionally! Good luck with your ride!
