Around here in PA and NJ i see Infiniti's all over the place. I think the word is out.

 

The issue with JD power is its only first 3 years of ownership and consumer reports are from self reported issues. The quality index focuses on 5 to 20 year old trade ins and inspections from mechanics looking for issues at time of trade in.

 

In Houston, I see Infiniti everywhere as well but oddly it seems no one knows anything about them.

 

Infiniti's are seen as cheap by a lot of people. When really they hold up better than audi bmw and benz as a used car. The value they give to used buyers are insane by comparison to the bmw benz and audi. Cost of ownership is less than half of those others off warranty.

 

Samesies. I live in NJ and I see Infinitis all day every day. Typically X or XS sedans. In some circles Infintis have a reputation for being ghetto cars but I don't know how that became a thing.

 

I see them everywhere as well and never heard anyone ever call them ghetto lol Unfortunately most of the Infiniti owners are older non forum members that I've seen. I wish I lived in California merely for the fact there's so many over there! Besides the beautiful weather and better roads of course

Plus the only thing I'd consider being ghetto with Infiniti is the service at their dealerships unfortunately lol

 

While you see them more is because of cognitive bias. We tend to see what we want to see or is similar to what we have when looking from an outside perspective you wouldn't see them as much cause simple fact is it only has 6.2% of total luxury sales that's less than acura and cadillac and I see a lot less of those than Infiniti. and just about the same as lincoln and porsche combined.

In the 90's Infiniti's were seen as drug dealer cars. However, that was quickly overtaken by the Acura Legend, BMW 3 series, Lexus, and Mercedes (along with Dodge Omni's and Plymouth Horizon's). Today, it's most notably the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Mercedes, Lexus, and "fill-in-the-blank" SUV.

 

I live in a 100,000-ish population college town, two hours from St. Louis or Kansas City. I see a few Infinitis tooling around, but not at the same ppm as Mercs, Bimmers. G37s are relatively rare here.

However my parents live in south county St. Louis, and to get there I have to go through swank Chesterfield, which is known for its high property values and mostly affluent residents. Chesterfield is where St. Louis' Lambo and Aston Martin dealerships are, and it has its own private little airport. When I drive through Chesterfield, I see LOTS more Infiniti on the road, particularly the SUV models. So much so that I can't help but feel like, "ahh, I'm back with my people!"

If Infiniti is good enough for the muckymucks in Chesterfield, it is not perceived as a cheap brand. Just the opposite.

It's worth pointing out that we do have Mercedes Benz and BMW dealerships here local, but not an Infiniti dealership. I think if we did, we'd see more Infiniti around here. Same with Lexus.

 

These days Infiniti is totally seen as a ghetto car and it's not because of the drug dealers driving them in the 90's - that was long time ago!

If you go to some really bad areas in north east and mid west you will see Infiniti everywhere, most of them are modified - drivers are blasting music like crazy. That's why it's regarded as a ghetto car. Don't believe me go to some areas of Bridgeport CT, Waterbury, CT or Port Chester, NY, Bronx, NY just to name a few.

 

Using that argument, I could pretty much classify any brand as ghetto. Heck, I've had a guy in a Ferrari blasting Dr Dre pass me the other day.
Is it considered ghetto because the supposed have-nots have (I'm not saying that this is your argument)?
I've always determined what's ghetto by the practicality of modification and aesthetics (22" rims on a Capri).

But you won't see that many Ferraris.
You will see one in blue moon.
Infiniti (G35, G37, and even Q50) are everywhere! Just drive through some rough neighborhoods in North East and you will see them pretty much on every corner.

I didn't come up with that term but I know many people are considering Infiniti as ghetto cars.

 

Who cares if people consider them "ghetto". Prove them wrong! Either don't rice up the car or do mods that will make it even more classy.
