Wishlist for Nextgen Sedan

Well, I searched a couple of times and nothing returned so here goes. This is in hopes that someone from Infiniti Product Planning is reading this forum, since all indications are that Infiniti Product Planning folks have no wish to communicate with their owner-base or through my dealer (Sewell-Dallas). I have tried both.

Please add your own areas that you would like to see improvement. Here are my top 10 to start the discussion:

1. weight reduction to below 3500 lbs (my stock 2003 G35 sedan is 3450 lbs)
2. remove steel bars from sports seats
3. better fuel exconomy (doing #1 will help)
4. more torque in the normal RPM range (may need FI)
5. more interesting exterior and interior color choices (anyone else getting tired of silver and grey with onyx leather?). Have a look at an Audi.
6. upmarket cloth interior for people that appreciate the additional comfort and wear-life that cloth gives, particularly in a hot climate
7. wheels for the sports model that aren't butt ugly
8. ditch the chrome thingy on the trunk (still working on #1 above)
9. fix the variable valve timing mechanism such that ester oil bandaid is not required
10. better communication between Infiniti and owner base.

#1 and #4 are on the top of my list. For #9, contrary to what some people have posted, ester oil is NOT required, as stated in the user manual. Regular high quality oil is fine.

I will add split folding rear seats and an arm rest in the back that opens up for storage, instead of the little cubby on the one side.

Would like the doors to auto-unlock when you put the car into park instead of unlocking when you turn off the ca.

1. Fix the lack of torgue and increase mpg (yes both at same time). DI engine, a hybrid with electric for initial torque, or turbos can do this.
2. Selectable engine remapping, suspension and driving modes (like Audi Drive Select)
3. More interior storage (bigger bins). Folding rear seat.
4. Better paint!
5. Bigger (> 8") lcd screen
6. Higher quality interior materials, so it won't be behind the germans (and by germans I mean Audi)
7. Bring back the old voice recognition which doesn't need 8798798 prompts to do anything!
8. Ventilated seats in addition to heated. Heated steering wheel
9. Aroundview camera from the EX/FX. Why isn't this on the G??
10. More tech like HUD, night vision.
11. And while you're at it, get Ford Sync (sign up with MS for Auto)! Its far and away the best car ICE and keeps getting better. Why do other car makers even try. This would fix 7 as well.

This is stuff that would need to happen (esp 1,2,7,9-11) to make me upgrade my 2010 in a few years.

More Torque, more torque, more torque.

A much better auto-transmission, similar to the transmission in the BMW 335i.

Just to be clear, my concern is not with the Nissan ester oil. It is with the variable valve timing design and the noise it is making on some cars. As I understand it, Infiniti says the only fix is to use their ester oil. I would rather have an engine design that is fine with regular high quality oil without undue noise from the valve train or anything else.

Just trying to hold up a worthy goal for Infiniti.

  1. More low end torque and a flatter torque curve
  2. An improved 6MT transmission
  3. Higher quality interior materials, the leather in particular
  4. Better fit and finish, especially the interior
  5. Improved fuel economy would be nice
  6. Better suspension tuning - that's one thing the Germans are still better at
  7. More horsepower
  8. The latest tech gadgets
  9. Higher quality paint
  10. Split folding rear seats

Forgot to add, DSG. Or the dual clutch from the Evo would be even better (which is also used in the M3).

And of course, keep price (and weight) down.
