Hiya all...Do you guys/gals drive in D or DS? And when do you make the switch, if you do?
And, is there somewhere that the typical RPMs for specific gears are listed? If so, then all one has to do is look at the RPMs to figure out
which gear you're in.
All answers will be greatly appreciated since I'm a bit confused.

What is it that confuses you?
You can drive however you want, personally, I'm always on M mode, I like to control what rpms I shift at. It's a matter of preference really.

I just leave it in D all the time. I find that DS doesn't really offer any advantages has tends to "hang" on a gear. I guess that's part of the sporty nature, staying in a lower gear to keep RPMs high.
I leave it in D 90% of the time. In normal city or highway driving there is no need for DS, also it's lauder and wastes more gas. I switch it to DS whenever I know I gonna need quick responses. If I see that the road is getting interesting, for example: twisty smooth road, no cars or cops, I will switch it to DS and put a huge grin on my face.

im in D 100% of the time. I sometimes use the paddle shifters while in D to make a pass slow cars in the left lane. Just a quik down shift and it automactly goes to M and then back

I use M 90% of the time, and D the rest. I have tried DS a few times and don't like driving in it. I think it works well if you wanted to do sporty driving, but I find I only like auto modes in traffic, which keeps it high in the rev range wasting gas.
If you really want to not waste gas, then use Snow Mode. It replicates a "normal" car auto transmission shifting pattern and throttle response.
D is equivalent to a sporty mode in most cars.
DS is aggressive--too much so for any kind of normal driving as mentioned above.
I agree that either D (with or without Snow Mode) or manual is the way to go. DS is a bit silly and can't really anticipate the conditions you are driving in (hills, corners, traffic, etc.) so therefore cannot be in the right gear at the right time.
