2010 G37 after polishing and 10 coats of Zaino

I recently had the swirls removed that were on my G when it was new removed, and thought I'd share the potential of this paint when it's prepared perfectly and has multiple coats of Zaino.

It looks nice. But 10 coats? Seriously?? I think you could have stopped after 2 or 3, plus did you let each coat cure in between? It take like a week to apply that many.

definitely looks good, but like Wake said, without time to cure those 10 coats end up being like 3 THICK coats

save yourself time and work next time

This was done over the course of a weekend. The paint was levelled using a two-step process w/Meg's 105 and a Menzerna finishing polish to jewel the paint.

The Zaino was done 5 coats the first evening, and 5 the second evening w/alternating Z-2 and Z-5, finishing with Z-2 and Z-8. A friend of mine did the detailing. I wouldn't typically do more than 2 coats, but I have to admit, it looks amazing.

FYI, Zaino is one of the few LSPs that will layer. There is no such thing as three "thick" coats equallying 10 "thin" coats. Zaino is applied very thin, or you're wasting product. If you apply more, more will just be wiped off.

I normally do my own machine polishing and application of wax/sealant, but the dealer hammered my car before I bought it and I wanted it perfect.

Respectfully, you're wrong on this. No such thing as a thick coat of wax or sealant...just more waste that you're going to be wiping off. Most won't even layer, but Zaino is the exception in that regard. Many LSPs have cleaners, and adding layers will remove previous layers.

It does look good! haha I know it's not the same thing, just making a comparison, I guess it would have been better to say it was wasting product by wiping it off (but I didn't realize it would layer well)

with zaino you dont need to wait long periods of time to cure. i think it only takes like half an hour before another coat can be added.

10 coats *is* excessive, but with results like that, maybe it was worth it?

Oh ok. I'm not familiar with Zaino's products but after looking at their site I see that the ones you listed are not all waxes and some are polish. That makes more since now, if the entire process was 10 coats.

Here's a close-up in full sun to show that there are no remaining swirls. It looked this good after polishing and wipe down with isopropyl alcohol. There are no fillers hiding swirls here.

Sealants and waxes are last step products that exist for appearance and protection. Zaino is confusing because they call themselves "show car polishes", even though Z-2 and Z-5 are both sealants. There are, in fact, 5 layers of each sealant on the car right now. The true polishes that were used to level the clearcoat and remove swirls were not Zaino products, although Zaino makes gentle Z-PC and Z-AIO products that can be used for minor paint correction and cleaning prior to application of sealant.

Hope that helps!

Oh ok. That clears it up better. I was still a little confused looking at their site. I've never used zaino personally but heard its good stuff. Heres a pic from my detail I just did over the weekend. I use most of the Poorboys line stuff including the EX-P sealant and Natty's red paste wax. Even with just one coat of the red it really makes the metalic flakes pop.

If you want you can check out the rest in the thread I wrote up.

The wheels were sealed with a wipe on sealant (no wipe off) by Zaino called Clear Seal. I promise I'm not selling the stuff, and I do use other products. As it worked out, Zaino looks great on this car.
