so today i decided to black my grill out. sanded it down, got out all those pesky rock chips... thanks infiniti! then proceeded with 4 coats of primer, followed by 3 coats "trim black" spray paint. here's a pic.

when I had my OEM grille and did this it took a couple hours (just b/c I let it dry completely in between each coat)

actual work time was like 30 minutes, most of that sanding/taping

yeah its probably the easiest mod to do.

just TAKE YOUR TIME when you sand/prime/paint/gloss

you don't want to rush and do a crappy sanding job and have it uneven, or spray too much paint and have it run, or rush in between coats and have it gunk up

 

how much time should i give for each coat of paint and each coat of clearcoating?

 

I basically took whatever the paint recommended and doubled it (most of it said 10 or 15 mins so I gave it 20-30 mins)

I had mine on for months and only 1 rock chip I had to throw some touch up paint on

Yes, doing a good job sanding is key. Also I waited 15 minutes in between coats. I also used a heat gun to make sure it was definitely dry, almost simulating the "baking" process auto body's use. I'm sure a hair drier would work also.
