G37X or G37 XS (sedan)?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to get a G37X sedan in a few days. My local dealer has a 2009 G37XS, slightly used (a dealer demo/loaner) with 10,000 kms on it of around $38K (Canadian). Same dealer has a leftover brand new 2009 G37X for the same price.

Now, just wondering which vehicle to get. On the one hand, the XS has the sport paddles & wheel, sport seats and aluminum pedals. Those look cool and I may get use out of the paddles. But is is a dealer demo/loaner and I wouldn't know how it was broken in.

The new 2009 X looks great, but is black in colour and I don't know if I want another black car (I've got a black SUV).

So, to ask all you G37 experts, which car is the better car for my $38K? The new X or the slightly used XS?

Any opinions/thoughts/info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I cant make your mind up for you, but if you do buy the G37xS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you like the sport seats. Many people on here buy the car and then weeks later complain that it is to snug of a fit and not comfortable. On the other hand, I love my sport seats in my xS.

As much as I love having the paddle shifters and the sports seats, if I were you I might have chosen to get the X. Just because the xS has 10k miles on it already. Quite significant on a new car. When I test drove vehicles I never purchased the one I test drove cause I drove it like I just stole it leaving the parking lot during test drives. People who buy the G37 usually rag on it a little to see what the car can do before putting 40k down on a vehicle. If you do like the xS much better, I would strongly suggest asking the dealer to find you another one or contact another dealer.

Good luck!

I don't know about G37's pricing in Canada, but in U.S. the sport package adds only about 5% to the MSRP. So, I think the 10,000 km in the odometer is too much a trade-off for the sport seats and paddle shifters. Assuming the two cars are otherwise identical in term of equipment, I would either buy the brand new G37x or negotiate a lower price for the 10k-miles G37xS.

you didn't mention what color the G37xS was, or if you liked it. We really looked for our G37xS sedan, PG with a stone interior. The seats fit GREAT and I'd say go for the Sport package. If you like the G37xS, do a little legwork. Check the maintenance log for the car and negotiate down from their initial figure.

I recently picked up a 2010 G37xS. I got the S Mostly because I wanted the Dunlop Sport Maxx tires over the Goodyear RSA's. The tire upgrade was $600 and the entire sport package which includes the 18" tires is $1100. I like the sport seats and the paddle shifter. Enjoying the car!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone! You all have a great forum here.

I think I may go for the new X as opposed to the demo XS. The Sport package is nice, really nice, but I don't really like the design of the 18"s, and I can't get over the fact that it already has 10,000 kms on it. My brother made the comment "how do you know how the engine was broken in?". I plan on keeping the car awhile (my current car is a 2001 Prelude that I bought brand new back in '01) so it's important that I know the complete history of the car.

If the dealer still has the car tomorrow, I may just make the deal.

Thanks!

New!!!!!

New is always better than used, especially if the used car was a loaner car. They tend to be very very abused. The X and XS are not all that different. There are larger wheels, sport seats with stiching, and paddle shifts. She wheels are nice, but the other stuff is not very important. It's a quick car, but it's not a Ferrari, so having paddle shifts isn't necessary. Besides, you can shift manually using the shifter, and the sport seats... who cares. The sport version on the X doesn't even get a better suspension or bigger brakes and rotors, so in my opinion the difference between the X and XS is minor. GET THE NEW ONE.

if you can get them to certify the XS then you would have 100,000 mile warranty...that could make a difference and could be a bargaining chip.

I like the sport seats, the paddles (yes I use them especially to downshift) the different bumper, the different side sills, and the tire upgrade....

Bottom line...you're gonna have this car a long time. Get the equip and the color that will still make you happy a couple of years from now.

And maybe don't limit yourself to these two choices...are you in that big of a rush?

Got my 09 G37xS for close to $38K last year. Considering that the Canadian vs US dollar exchange rate is practically 1 to 1, $38K sounds steep for a 09 G37xS with 10K miles imho. Just get a new xS and be done with it.

Personally, I much prefer the sport seats to the standard seats, use the paddles all the time and the 50 series rubber on 18 inch wheels will provide you marginally better performance compared to the 17 inchers with 55 series rubber that you get on the non S. Less sidewall flex.

I love my G37xS. At first the seats were very snug and not so comfortable. I also own a 08 G37x and those seats were much better. However with 10K on it now, the seats are starting to soften up a little so I fee much better in them! xS is cool but honestly, with the help of this forum, paddles and rims can easily be DIY. Enjoy the new car bro!

I would say all things being equal, if they were both brand new, definitely get the xS, assuming you could handle the sport seats.

Since the xS has crossed over the 10,000kms mark, go for the new X.

Thanks for the replies! I decided to go with the brand new X. Can't wait to pick it up. May need some help on how to add paddle shifters though! Is that even possible as a DIY?

Yes it's definitely possible! I know there's a DIY here somewhere with pics. I just can't track the link down right now. Surely someone will have it and post up!
