I get this all the time when the brakes are wet -- snow out, etc. It virtually goes away when dry out or warm out. Annoying for sure.

I have the exact same issue described by the OP JohnsG37x. It is almost as if there is something between the pads and the rotor, or the driver side front caliper isn't releasing. Rocking the car back and forth a foot or so while it is in neutral, I can hear a dull rubbing sound.

Let up on the brakes quickly as you pull away from a stop to minimize the sound.

Is this really that bothersome to people? There must be something else to this, because as far as I know, this just means we have good, grabby brakes.
Bingo! You can make any car do this if you ease off the brakes slowly enough.

It's called friction.

Yeah, of course that makes sense, but it happens in the normal course of driving. Like pulling into the garage. Or out of a parking spot. Or into a parking spot. Or navigating in a parking lot. We certainly can't brake hard every time!

Yeah well all of that really is just normal, easy braking. It's just the sound of friction between the pads and rotors.

And from what I understand, actual harder braking behaves normally?

You can make any car's brakes groan if you're light enough on them at a light, parking, etc.

My rubbing/creaking/squealing sound when rolling forward turned out to be the rotor rubbing on the backing plate. Adjusted at the dealer, and now there is no rubbing sound.

Brake pads

Yea, any car will do this, but certain brake pads make it more noticeable. If you have the sport brakes with the dealer installed high friction pad, that'll be the worst case scenario. It's comparible to any BMW, though, which all use a pretty aggressive pad.

This is getting worse on my car, every time I drive my car after it's been parked for a few hours, there is a noticeable brake groan when I feather the brakes while pulling out of my parking space. Has anyone been able to get it fixed at the dealer? My next service appointment is in September.

A couple of good reads on this subject:

Easy to understand - Technical Reports

Antithesis of the above - https://www.mecheng.osu.edu/adl/files/adl/J168.pdf

Please print out the latter and bring it to your dealer when you have it worked on, and let us know how that goes.

Is there rust on the rotor? If you're in a humid/rainy environment, rust on the rotor will cause additional drag until it is removed by braking a few times.

Here's a great old Maxima TSB that explains some of what you're experiencing: http://www.lyberty.com/car/Maxima_A3.../NTB00-033.pdf

My 07x did this mostly when it was wet out (noticed it first at about 15k).

My 10xS is still relatively new and no noise wet or dry.

I think the original post was about something different than the squeal when reversing. The squeal in reverse is "normal" according to the dealer due to the big multi piston sport brakes. Funny that I never had the sound in any other car with big brakes (911, M5, M3, S5). I get a brake squeal when lightly braking to a stop in reverse AND when driving forward. I'll probably research new pads when the time comes for replacement.
