What kind of fuel mileage are you seeing with either your G37x or G37 sedan with the 7 speed auto transmission? City v. highway.

 

G37X, Sedan, 7AT, 6000-10,000 miles

Based on running the tank from topped off to near empty for reasonable estimates, I have seen so far:

City:
short daily trips 19 MPG
general small city/ rural cycle 20-22 MPG

Highway (trips):
80% interstate plus city 25-27 MPG
100% interstate, 75MPH, 450 miles straight (best tank so far) 30.5 MPG

I was surprised to exceed the 25 MPG EPA highway rating and amazed at the 30 MPG for any tank.

City driving here is moderate paced, occasionally spirited, rarely 6000+rpm. This is not large city driving with stop-and-go, idling in traffic jams, or lights on every block. I would expect less MPG under these conditions if a lot of time is spent in gears 1 to 4 which have low ratios.

Pretty much the similar to above. I have 3500 miles and recently took a long trip (1/2 interstate @ 70-75 MPH, 1/2 rural highway @ 50-55 MPH) and averaged about 28+ MPG.

In normal city/highway I average between 22 and 24 MPG.

 

G37Xs 4k miles

city 15mpg (stop and go)

highway (if you can call NY roads highways) 25mpg

 

I have about 15,000 miles and just drove a 1,000 mile round trip.

My city, which is mosy what I drive, has been about 18 to 19.
When I drive on long highway trips I have averaged about 28.
My last long drive went through the mountains of West Virgina and Maryland. I set the cruise at about 73 and I got about 27. I have not gotten 30 yet. I am impressed with the highway numbers given the hp this vehicle has.

The Coupe we have averages about 18. Have not taken that on a long trip yet.

 

I can get over 30 if manually shift to 7th gear and really baby the throttle. Have no clue why shifting to 7th makes a difference but it does according the the onboard cpu.

 

Seventh gear is an overdrive and allows revs to be cut. The ECU leans out the air/fuel mixture at highway speeds and allows the VQ37VHR to run very lean. The combination of low revs and lean combustion cycle (hopefully on a relatively level highway stretch) is the best for high MPG readings.

 

Coming from a 6MT the 7AT is pretty impressive
I only have 1050 miles but I am averaging 24 with mixed highway and city driving. Turning about 2500 rpms at 80. I think my 6mt would turn closer to 2700-2800 rpms. I really love the 7AT, very agressive but smooth.

 

Well I get all that, but the car should automitically be in 7th in D anyway. I am not the only one, there was another thread on this issue before. Try and see for yourslef, shift it into 7th manually and watch the mpg.

2009 g37x 7AT @ 5,000 miles
20 mpg mixed (75% city/25% highway)
17-18 city if if really baby it, about 27 highway at 70-75 mph. Have clocked 30+ mpg at 60-65 mph but it's impossible to keep it that slow for more than a few miles.

 

I recently purchased a 2009 G37 Journey Premium/Sport sedan. I love this car. I am coming off of a couple of more pure sport cars (Cayman S, M3, etc) and really really like this G37. Very confident car, pure pleasure to experience, and an amazing value.

I am surprised at the mileage I am getting. I picked up the car with 35 miles on it and I have put on about 300. I have averaged 13.8 mpg, according to the computer on the car. It has been pure around town driving, but I have not been gunning it during break-in. I have not WOT even once. I have kept RPM's below (mostly far below) 4K.

Is this likely just break-in or does this sound like either a problem or bad mileage computer? I have not done my own calculation (yeah, I guess that is probably a good next step).

Anyway, I would appreciate any thoughts.

You may need to reset the mileage meter to get an accurate reading for your recent driving. I know when I picked up my car in June, the salesman and I sat in the car with the AC on for about 1/2 hour in the lot while she went over the controls. When I pulled away, the mileage was about 10 mpg. Even when I got home it didn't get above 13 because of all the gas burned without driving any miles! Ever since resetting the meter, it gets about 20 around town and 26 on the highway. I've even watched the real time bar graph and it seems to match my long term average.

Good point ChiDave. I should have mentioned that I have reset the mpg computer twice. Interesting that you mention the A/C... I live in Austin and it has been brutally hot, until today. Also, I have tended to want it ice cold in the car. I will have to see if the reduced use of the AC makes a significant difference
