The Maxima is a front wheel drive car. It wouldn't even be in my list of cars, and the styling is kind of iffy to me. I think the G37xS sedan is definitely the way to go.. and its just about the same price as well. The G is your best bet.. unless you took a look at BMW's?
I love Maxima's, but the RWD (or AWD) G37 is soooo much better than the FWD Maxima. I have had multiples of both, and the G is a much better performer in every way. Infiniti's service and warranty are better too.... There is no way I could go back to a Maxima.

The Maxima is a great looking car and has a few features the G is missing. I really liked the air-conditioned seat option, CVT and better fuel mileage. IMHO the Infiniti offers better dynamic properties for performance driving, more power and fuses Japanese cultural design cues into both interior and exterior. The Maxima is designed for North American tastes and has a slightly lower price tag.
The Maxima is very high quality & has a more 'pleasant' cruising ride than the G - ; usually a G buyer cross shops RWD cars w/o CVT, so if you think you want a Maxima then maybe the G is not the car for you - they are not very similar in style, ride or driving dynamics (in my opinion...)
I actually test drove both and initially was leaning towards the max because I only have a local Nissan dealer, but here is what changed it for me:
-While the CVT was smooth, I didn't feel the excitement of the drive as much.
-Resale Value, the G37 would hold its value more
-Current Incentives, at the time i bout it Infiniti had 2000 dealer cash while nissan had 1250. that helped make up the price difference a little bit. Also I was lucky enough to find a referral partner for the AMEX promo so I got get another 500 back (hopefully)
-Interior Quality - I think the dash and layout is a bit more classy in the G
-Passenger room - I have kids and the smaller roofline in the back of the Max would have made it a bit harder to get kids in and out of car seats. The G does has more headroom and interior space in general.
-Warranty - Better on the G with a full year longer on the bumper-to-bumper
-Service, a lot of Infiniti dealers offer valet service and I even live 85 miles away and they give you another loaded g37 while service work is being done. I don't know of any Nissan dealer that do that.
-AWD, I live next to Lake Erie so this was a major plus for me
While I do agree the rims are nicer and parts of the Max look better on the exterior, I knew I would be regretting the decision. With that being said, I could see you being happy in either. I liked both vehicles.

The Maxima is a great car. One thing it has that I wish Infiniti would adopt is the panoramic sunroof. Nissan has it in the Maxima and the Murano- if Nissan can have it, it should sure be an Infiniti option too.
I (puts on flame suit) would buy the Maxima before the G37S Sedan. For some reason the Maxima "feels" sportier to me and has very unique styling. The CVT has definately got some power to get up and go. I had my buddy's 09 Maxima SV Sport for a week and it was a blast. I've had plenty of G37 Sedans and they seem blah and boring to me. (That could be because they are the X model too, i suppose).

I have had 2 maximas a while back. They are great cars (or were when they have real transmissions and were offered in manual). It all depends on what youa re looking for.
FWD + CVT = FAIL in the sport sedan mission. Great looking car for sure, but have you driven a rubber band CVT eqipped car? I suppose if you are even considering a FWD MAxima, then maybe a TL is another good choice.

The new Maxima styling is very unique and attractive. However the lack of MT and RWD is a deal breaker for me.
What's ironic is that Nissan calls the Maxima a 4DSC (4 door sports car) even though everybody agrees that this title clearly belongs to the G37 Sedan.

The G37 Sedan can do 0-60 in 5.0 secs - in fact the Sedan is faster than the coupe lol; the Max is around 6.3-4 - that's something like 3 car lengths in a quarter mile time. The 37x is considerably slower than the RWD S.
