Have you ever noticed a weird sound when turn engine off on 09 G37x?

Greetings:

I am wondering if any of you notice a weird sound (jet engine, turbine or something spin at very high speed) when you turn the engine off on your 09 G37x? After 800 miles, the weird sound now disappears.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

no, haven't noticed this -- will listen next time for it;

- is this something that was audible when the window's were closed and the radio was off?
- was your A/C on or off?
- is it louder with the windows down?
- you say the noise/sound is GONE now that you have 800+ miles?

I think it might be the electric fans winding down. My wifes Altima coupe does the same thing. Sounds kinda different to be sure.

I hear that in my car every day, since I always always drive with a least one window partially open.

If I hear it again, I will try to record the sound and post it here if possible.

think it is the AC. I hear the same sound as you (well...at least I think it is the same sound)...and only notice it if the AC is on when I turn off the car. If the AC is off...I do not hear it.

but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure it's not the AC. I rarely ever used the AC. I'm a open windows kind of person.

I also hear the sound of an actuator in the rear -- probably the actuator for the gas cover lock actuator (when the car is turned off, door unlock automatically .. hence the actuator sound)

Could just be the cooling fan...which can very well run and different speeds wheter the A/C is on or not.

You guys are all bigger nut jobs than me. Its just motors/fans slowing down.

Ok...I take back what I said above..sort of..hehehe.

BUT BUT BUT....I think I know what your talking about. The CD player makes a "winding down" noise when you shut off the car, but only if the CD has been spining/playing. If a CD is in the slot and you start the car, it will start to spin it. However, after a few mins of driving, the cd will stop spining if your not playing the cd, but you probabaly wouldn't hear it since the car/radio/tire noise etc. However, if you're playing the cd while driving, then naturally it would be spining right up until you turn of the car...and then your the "widining down" noise.

Problem solved?

Nice try .

I don't play any CD ever. The only thing I listen to is the radio and only one local station from work to home and vice versa. On a long trip (2~4 hours max), I have a custom station tailors just for my pleasure, my wife talking.

I just get a loaner G37x with 350 miles and experience the same noise w/o AC , so it must be normal. Now what worry me is the sound now disappears intermittently and not as noticeable as when it has 500 miles or so.

I believe the noise you are hearing is the alternator winding down. These are not regular alternators and have a clutch type system that enguages when it sees the battery voltage drop below a certain value. They do this to decrease engine load thus creating better gas milage.....
