1/2 way or normal operating temp. Either way, it's usually a bit optimistic for me. Most of the time I wait until it hits the 2nd notch from the bottom and then drive off.

yeah i support warming the car up first even tho the manual just encourages it during the break in process. in the winter i garage the car and it takes just like 2 minutes for the needle to start moving and about 4-5 mins. to get to normal oil temp. i think thats pretty damn fast. our old v8 2000 lexus gs400 takes about 10 minutes to warm up to normal temp, lol.

in the summer mos. the G seems to warm up to normal temp in like 2 mins. fast!

 

I try to wait about 30 seconds and then drive off keeping rpms below 3k. However, there are times when I dont do it. I think you will be fine if you dont try to go pull your best 0-60 time with a cold engine.

 

idling at any temp isn't that great. cold start is the hardest on an engine. absolute worst is long idle after cold start. you need to find a blend that fits your situation. I wait 30 sec to build oil pressure and then drive low RPM until it begins to warm. Won't flirt with redline until 2x the time it takes for the water to reach normal operating temp. In the winter this could be up to 10 minutes. Keep in mind oil takes longer than water to heat up.

 

I usually keep my cars for 8 or 9 years. Just gave my son a Passat at 159k. The motor seems as good as new. Never warmed up the car. Turned the key (old cars ), put in gear and drive away slowly. Works for me.

I don't warm my cars either. I start it, get my seat belt on, radio set to something good, adjust the seat warmer, put it in gear and drive away. The road I live on has a 45 MPH limit, so I just don't gun it right away. This car does warm up quickly. The car is usually at normal operating temp within a mile to mile and a half of my house, which I find amazing.

 

^ That's pretty much what I do. Start it, do all my adjustments (which is about 20-30 seconds), then drive away, taking it easy until it's up to temp. I also noticed (1 month anniv. today!) that this car warms up pretty quickly, it's only 1 or 2 miles to my daughter's pre-school and the car is in operating temp by the time we get there. My RS6 took about 2 to 3 times longer to warm up than this car. I wish our cars had an oil temp gauge though, that's what really needs to be warmed up before you get on it.

when i start my g37 on the winter (like 15 degrees or so) that **** sounds like a freakin car from the 80's its lil cranky and stuff but its no more than 2 mins and its completely warmed up. i usually jus wake up run downstaris with freak boxers and blanket over me start that bitch up and come back down 15-20 mins later when dressed and its perfect and ready to be manhandled :-)
