Hi guys I recently got a g37s coupe from 2013 and wanted to ask about the mileages that you guys get, because I do city driving and get between 186 to 249 miles with a full tank. Is it normal in your opinions? Because I know it has a big engine but I feel its not normal. Let me know
I do mostly city driving, 6mt, with occasional highway/freeway driving and according to the trusty mpg thing on the display I get 17-18 mpg which to me isn’t bad for a luxury sports car. On the highway it says 20mpg and I’ve had my car for about 6-7 months now, it did get 1 mpg better after doing spark plugs. The person who put the old plugs that were in there didn’t know anything about cars because they were gapped horribly. If you drive with a heavier foot it’ll obviously go down. Remember, you’re driving a 3.7L V6 not a 1.6L-2.4L Honda lol
A quick look on Google says 18 city 24 highway so I feel it’s about accurate, no?
Yep, that's accurate.
The G is a lousy car for people who are sensitive to gas prices and drive a normal amount of miles per year. Add the cost of 91 octane to the mix... ouch.
Mileage is very subjective. Overall car health, driver habits, and road conditions all play into the average mpg.
That said, 2008 Coupe, 5AT, 22-24mpg. My 2014 BMW (3.0 I-6 TT) gets 27-30 with the 7DCT (and it is VERY HARD not stepping on that gas pedal) whereas my beater pickup (3.0 V6, 5MT) gets around 25. ALL are paper-and-pen calculated- not the idiot "computer."
If you are getting low-teens, or lower, then you need to check into your individual driving habits and/ or the health of your car (engine tuneup, tires, etc.).

I come from the Honda world and I’ll admit I really miss the way it feels not watching your gas gauge move every 5 minutes haha
I have two Hondas, a Pilot and a CRV.
The CRV gets about 22-23mpg and the Pilot around 20-21mpg combined. I disabled the VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) on the Pilot (destroys the torque converter and causes premature piston failure), so it would be close to the CRV with VCM engaged (i.e. 2 of 6 cylinders disabled, torque converter slippage used for balancing). Both are well maintained compliments of my OCD.
My G gets 19-20mpg combined, but at least 25mpg on the highway (27-28mpg on long trips with cruise control).
So not a huge gap between the utilitarian FWD SUVs and much more exciting RWD. Of course 340i BMWs are faster than the G and get better mileage, closer to the older SUVs I own. Have your cake and eat it?
I'll admit that I don't pull hole shots from lights and rarely use drive sport mode in the G as both lower my mileage roughly 2-3mpg, but I am in CA, so driving 75-80mph on the highway is common but my car seems most comfortable in this range and I don't know if MPG would be better if I went 55-60mph?.
I do rent little eco boxes when I travel for work, and while they are wheezing and struggling 90% of the time, I am always amazed when I return them 2-3 days later that I have barely used any gas. Doesn't make me want one though...

2012 37X and get about 21 on the highway driving the speed limit. Pleased as punch getting that out of an engine like this! Such a blast to drive and put my foot in it way too much driving around town, don't even want to know
And after returning from a much needed 5-day holiday in your neck of the woods I can say it was a blast driving on those roads...
Did you end up staying downtown? How was the reunion?
Strange that you enjoyed the roads. My relatives that have visited from the east coast were intimidated by people driving so fast. It's not like the east coast where if you drive 2mph over the speed limit on the NJ Turnpike, some Smokey is hiding in the woods with a radar gun and ready to write a ticket. Here, the folks that get tickets are blazing past the main flow of traffic, or weaving in and out of traffic.
On the bright side, the slower speeds and asphalt (vs. concrete in CA) roads make even the cheapest of rental cars ride nice.

Ended up staying with friends at their place in La Mesa. Easier and cheaper and being that we haven't seen each other in well over 20-years it made better sense.
Best trip ever in recent memory. Remember, I am a NY'er through and through despite my living in the south now so I am no stranger to freeway driving. Perfect blends of freeway driving, typical city roads, and the twisty turns of the mountains (went to Julian as a side trip).
Granted I am looking through that rosy colored lens that only shows the greener side of things, but if I could afford it I would move in a instant. Complete polar opposite from LA and SF. I could easily spend the rest of my retirement hiking those trails at Cabrillo/ Pt. Loma:
The GT-R parked in the handicapped slot at La Jolla was a huge chuckle, though...
Again, rosy colored lenses, but, I'm already planning a return trip for sometime within the next 6 months or so...
P.S. The NJ Turnpike was always a massive drain on people- both driving and financially.

Point Loma is my favorite part of San Diego. I lived there on base for a few years when I was in the Navy. My first job out, I worked for a defense contractor monitoring the kelp cutters going in and out of the the bay. Our facility was in a restricted area atop Point Loma with a full ocean view.
I didn't realize how good I had it back then.
Note that a couple of friends at my kids baseball games were doctors and they drive brand new range rovers with handicapped tags. I sense that many scam the system.
