Hey all. Might be a silly question. I took my car in to the dealership for some repairs. For a loaner, they gave me a 2023 Infiniti Q55. This car is quite the upgrade from mine. Is it possible for me to buy that steering wheel to fit into my 2012 G37 Sport X? Also I’d like to upgrade the USB port as well. Are those doable?
Adding a USB port is straight forward via one of the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto vendors like Nifty City, but modern steering wheels often include functionality that extends the standard wiring harness. Anything is possible with time and money, but a newer wheel from say a Q50 may be simpler to add as that model is an extension of our G.
re: USB. If your car currently has a USB port, you might be able to swap ports. You would have to check the actual cable that goes from the port to the headunit. Depending on why you want the swap, you could always just relocate your existing port.
re: Steering Wheel. Any non-tech or non-Red Sport wheel will work. There is one button that does not function as intended but unless you constantly use NAV you'd never notice it. The wheel you posted WILL NOT WORK
See the blue button? This indicates that this a "Technology Package" wheel, therefore, the connectors are completely different. It would still work but not without extensive re-wiring. Any base wheel with the 8-pin gray connector will work:
But, yes, it can be done. I swapped steering wheels (see post) mainly for the heated feature and have Absolutely. Zero. Regrets.

Last comment on this steering wheel idea. Each wheel and airbag is designed to work with a particular model, seating position and other factors. While this might not matter to you, if there's an accident and you get hurt, the insurance company may look at "non-standard safety equipment" as a reason to deny coverage. Not saying this is enough to stop modding your car, it's just something to consider.

Interesting. Never considered that. Something to think about.
