Swapping in a VR transmission

Hey all, currently purchased a G37x coupe about a month or so ago, about 200k on the car. Well maintained for the most part. However the car went into limp mode recently and after scanning the car I got the dreaded P0524 code. So I’m currently planning to put a low mileage VQ in it at RAD in Queens. Since the car is out of commission for the next week or so and I’m dropping it off Tuesday, thought I’d try and ask around for info on VR 7AT swaps. The team quoted me at about 4.5k total for the trans swap, but I reckon I can get it done for cheaper. I was swapping in the trans eventually to prep for boost, but since the motor is gone, figured I’d do both at once. Any help or places to search are appreciated, especially those who have swapped their trans in and around the tri-state area

(obligatory attached pic of the G as she is rn)

P0524 is low oil pressure right? Gallery or timing chain gasket? Motor may be fine.

you are correct! Editing this to say that it’s P0011 code, so that’s what you said yeah. I just wasn’t sure if the price to replace the two were expensive or not, so i was trying to see if the swap was the better option.

Not a bad price for a swap that's not so common.

It's became somewhat common in the RWD world but not so much in the AWD one. If 4.5k is labor only I'd say thats up there however it thats with transmission/fluids included then it's not a bad deal.

Yeah 4.5k total for everything including labor ain't bad.

as far as swaps go it’s about as easy as it comes,

awd vr30 trans is 100% direct bolt besides 3 miner things.

1. need to notch the bellhousing for the crank sensor
2. the “arm” that connects the gear position selector to the transmission is approx 3/4” too short, I just used a little straight bracket with 3/4” spaced holes.
3. The driveshaft from xfer case to front diff is direct fit, but the driveshaft from xfer case to rear diff is approx 3/4” too short. You either need a custom spacer of some sort, have a driveshaft shop lengthen it, or I just opted for a custom 1pc shaft that can hold plenty more power.

I got mine made by full torque driveshaft,
Should be the same for any AWD VR30 Coupe swap, but I hold no responsibility if some issue. Slip spline does allows for a decent amount of +/- tolerance though.

Steel Flange to Flange with slip and spline 3" diameter (non CV) with diff side flange T35-ALFY-07 with 1350 u-joint, And trans side flange 3102-69 PTI with the 1310 solid u-joint
Trans flange face to rear diff flange face is
49.765” with 1 degree slope down from trans to diff.
Was $827 total paid a year ago.

Also use the VR30 trans mount and trans mount crossbrace they are both direct bolt on.

good time to do billet flexplate while your at it as that is a known weak link. I also had IPT build the torque converter and valve body while I was at it, so should easily be a bullet proof 500wtq trans setup.

I’m planning on doing the vr swap on my rwd sedan. Any insight on if the old TCM needs to be swapped in, or can I use the new TCM? I’m assuming if I am able to use the new one it would have to be reprogrammed, but I’m not yet sure if anyone has done this and had success.

You will need to swap in your TCM.
Another reason doing a built VB is a good idea since you’ll already be pulling the VB to get to the TCM. IPT has a very thorough easy to follow video on our trans how to pull/install a VB very easy to do actually especially while the trans is not in the car.
