Color matching

Hello! I have a 2008 g37 coupe and I'm looking to do a build with purple accents. I recently received my admin tuning 3" cold air intakes in the mail with red filters.
I'm wondering if there is any way to change the color of the filter to purple to match the theme of my build without hurting performance.

I have searched for oils and cleaners and I haven't found any in purple... will fabric dye work?

Thanks in advance!

Unless the filter is undyed/colored you won't have any luck changing the color. It will just turn black or brown. I used to make aftermarket filters and they were usually colored by the oil we used, unless it was a color oil we didn't have. In that case we dyed the element before pouring/forming the filter, then it was oiled with undyed oil.

You could order different filters, but you're not going to get purple filters from previously oiled/dyed filters.

Okay cool.
Did you just use fabric dye or what kind of dye will I need?
I have seen some light grey "dry" filters... would these work as a base?
I didnt see any purple filters available from name brands. There were a few from places like Ali express... don't want to get a knock off part though.

If they are dry filters there is a good chance you will destroy them trying to dye them. You could get what we called "clear" filters and try to dye them. We just used RIT dye to dye the custom ones.

You could check out Green Filter USA. If you know what size filter you need you could call them up and talk to them about doing a custom order. https://greenfilter.com/universal-cylinder For instance if you need a filter the size of a 2024 just tell them you want 2024's, but would like them dyed purple. They will dye the element before assembly, then it is oiled with clear/undyed oil. Worst case they might have you order through another vendor like Summit or Jegs or AutoAnything or something like that.

Alright! Thank you!
Any suggestions on how to match a powder coat with paint?
I ordered a few parts in illusion purple but plastic (like the engine cover) can not be powder coated.
