Pros and Cons of 2012 G37 IPL

I have an 08 g37s with 71k km on it, clean title and was wondering if selling and going for 2012 g37 ipl with about 91k km on it, clean title, is worth it? How is it overall compared to previous models?

If the IPL is a great deal, and you see it as a newer and better version of the car you already have, and you really like the G Coupe platform that much, go for it. But your '08 is the RWD Sport Model, and assuming it's in good condition (?), the differences between the two aren't really dramatic. So if you're giving up a low-miles, cared for Coupe, your upgrade is incremental at best.

Here's another way to look at it: when transitioning from one car to the next with motivations based on desire rather than need, it's more rewarding to move into a different car entirely.

At the end of the day, there's no wrong answer, and your question is wide open, so there's no wrong advice either.

If you like your G37 then you'll love the upgrade.

How many miles does the IPL have? If you are going to lower miles it might be worth it. Do you like IPL look better?

if presented with the opportunity for a newer g37, my first thoughts would be:

- do I get to transfer all of my supporting mods to the new g?
- is it lower mileage?
- have I thoroughly got all the enjoyment out of my current g to justify my original purchase of the car?

if yes to all 3, new g is a go.

How about: have you blown the gallery gasket on your '08 yet? When talking about a 13 and 9 year old car respectively, that's enough of a high-cost repair that it factors in.

We can conjecture until the cows come home... OP's first post ever here on the forum is just too vague.

His 08 has roughly 44 thousand miles and the IPL roughly 56 thousand.

I went from an 08 to my 2012 IPL and yes it was worth it. The better looking more modern interior is the main reason to make the jump. Plus the IPL is more rare so you'll stand out more. It's not a massive difference but you can feel the extra power of the IPL. But to be honest, any 2012 or newer sport is better than the 08.

What kind of numbers are we talking... $$$? I'd say it's only worth while if it's marginally more than a wash, otherwise no.

Well, they can ask $16k-$19k, when the miles are low. Heck, people can ask any price they want.

I realize the used car market is on steroids, but it's plateaued and about to come back to normal. So it's a great time to sell, but not so much to buy, making it a wash for people looking to do both. Now I can't get into your head, but I'd advise some realism about hoping to sell high and buy low at the same time in the same market.

So let's dissect this a bit because additional info has changed overall the entire thread

You currently own 2008 G37 that I believe it's paid off with low mileage. One that you appear to just be content with and want to spice things up a bit.
The IPL is one of many contenders out there. A low mileage 2012 IPL based off the price though great car nothing stands out particularly outside of what one would expect an IPL to be.

You want to upgrade your profile without coming out of your budget too much is what it boils down to apparently.

When quoting your own inventory it's safe to work with the lowest or more realistic side of the offers (you may want to just post the car to see what realistic offers offer)

With that being said I average $14-$17k, lets leave the haggling the price of the IPL alone.

This means that out of budget would average about $3-6k.

Unsure how this looks for you, could be feasible, for me it wouldn't.

These cars are great cars but I still believe that $16k should be the most anyone should pay for any V36 chassis no matter the trim.

Why do I say this? because year wise the cars are about the same. A 2012 Sport model will bring almost everything the IPL will for about the same amount of money you can sell your car.

Be advised that the market for the 2008 is not as hot as for the 2010+ due to fascia change so you might not even get close to that offer on your vehicle.

In my opinion the tax of an IPL is overstated for what it is especially if you've owned a G37 in the past.

So to put it in perspective that's a little easier: Is the newer interior and exterior worth it to you? If you are someone that would change out the wheels and exhaust then the only unique thing left really is the looks. You can find replica IPL bumpers easily if you wanted to do that.
