Trying to get paddle shifters

I have a 2012 g37 journey coupe - I've heard getting paddle shifters is easy and is plug and play compatible. I'm looking around ebay but getting a little confused.

I messaged one seller and he responded with this:

Hello.
You checked that you have existing harness to connect these ???
You will need plastic column covers on the bottom left right and center. The ones you have don’t have openings for paddles.
Thank you.
Can someone help me understand what EXACTLY I would need? Maybe by providing an example through an ebay post, etc?

I am not suggesting you buy this particular unit, but I found this listing on eBay. This shows exactly what you will need:

You would reuse your "upper" shroud cover.

However, BEFORE you do anything else, I would first verify if your car is pre-wired for the paddles. You would have to remove your existing lower cover and look for two separate harness connectors (they will be wrapped up in foam tape and well hidden) see here

If your car is pre-wired then you are good to go. If not, then the install- while it can still be done- gets trickier and more intensive.

Starting to make sense, thank you... I was under the impression that all of the g37's are pre-wired to be able to "plug and play". Is this true? If not, which ones are and which ones aren't? Is there a way for me to know without pulling apart the steering wheel covers?

Short answers: no.
Most G's are/were pre-wired but there are plenty out there that are not. The only sure fire way to be sure is to pull off the lower cover and check for sure (should take <30min.).

I guess I'll just take a look to make sure - only thing I need to check for is the harnesses, right? Wrapped in foam, etc.

I also had my wife send the pics above, one of the sellers on ebay was telling me to make sure I have holes/openings. Does this help determine if I'm compatible?

You will keep your upper shroud (above red line).
You will have to swap out the lower shroud with one that has the notches for the paddle shifters.
Unless you remove the lower shroud and look, there is no way to guarantee if your car is pre-wired or not.

Alright, making sense...

I'm going to go in and check tonight. So let's say I check and I do in fact have the harnesses, is the ebay link you put everything I would need?

There isn't anything MORE than necessary in the link you posted right? I'm trying to save money, but also make as sure as possible before purchasing because a lot of these listings don't have returns. Assuming I HAVE the harnesses, there aren't any other listings I should look at (cheaper, etc)?

Assuming you have the two connectors, all you need are the paddles, the lower shroud, and the hardware (bolts).

That link has everything you need, but I would try to negotiate a lower price. For reference, when I swapped to the newer paddles, I sold my old set, with shroud, for slightly under $300.

Good luck.
BTW, this DIY video
shows how to easily install the paddles without having to remove the steering wheel.

Unhappy Need help

I own a 2008 G37 Coupe Journey. I ordered the paddle shifters for my car, only to find out that my car does not come with the wire harness to plug in.

Wondering if anyone in the SOCAL area has made their own wire harness before and if anyone would have an interest in doing mine? I am not a mechanic or technician, therefore I would prefer someone else with experience do it.

@Oscar Zejdlik I also had this problem on my 08 Coupe. I had to search around for a bit as I was going to wire up my own harness for it. In my search I had found out that there is someone on the EX/FX section of the iS forums that make a harness for the paddles. I think his username was rex0926. Anyway, I asked him how much and he sent me one for about 100 usd with shipping. I payed him via paypal and it came from Taiwan in about a week. This was roughly 2 years ago and his post about these were about 3 yrs prior. You could look for him and message him to see if he stills makes them?

That was the harness photo he had sent me a while back. Install was pretty easy and I have not had any problems with it! Hope he is still around, If I happen to find his email, I will pm you.

Oscar, if you had read the post, you would notice that the vendor is not a member of myg37.com but rather a member of Infinitiscene.com (hence the "iS forum" BxG3? stated).

A simple Google search and I found the guy. His screen name is rex9271 on Infinitiscene.com. And, yes, he is in Taiwan.

Here is a link to his classified listing for the M37 Paddle Shifter Kit. You will have to create a account over at Infinitiscene.com and you can send him a direct message that way. As far as paddles go, whether it is the EX/FX, M, G, or early Q50/60's.. they are all the same damn thing. I am sure he can hook you up- for a price.

Good luck.
