Built front diff and transfer case

Has anyone on here upgraded their front diff or transfer case? I’ve been doing some research and it looks like the majority of the internal parts of the transfer case share part numbers with the skylines and from everything I’ve seen it appears that the front diff assembly is the same as the skylines and even the gtr. If anyone’s got info please let me know. I’m starting to build my 2010 g37x coupe and I’d like to make it bullet proof. Hoping to put out 800hp+ and still be able to beat on it in awd. 😀

Same AWD set-up as the R32:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATTESA

No need to build; Driveshaft might need attention before the differentials or t-case - Boost and go nuts.

I was thinking about putting 3.33’s and in it which would mean I’d need to do the front diff as well and possibly lsd in the front too 🤷🏻‍♂️, and I also saw this beautiful billet front diff housing for the skylines

I believe as long as the ratios match up, you can run LSD in the rear only. I believe this is what a lot of WRX guys do when they do an STI swap and only get the transmission (except reverse). The STI transmission has the LSD and the R160 is open.

I wouldn't even give it a second thought until it let go.

The GTR clutch packs is a no. Why? The R35 GTR uses a type of trans axle in the rear just like the Corvettes so it's just not going to work.

As far as the front diff, the drive shaft flange is different meaning you'd probably have to change the yoke flange to the G one and at this point I wonder if its better to just swap the internals. Now looks like the R35 front is a 2.9 which wont work. You'll have better luck with other nissan/infiniti differentials to obtain the gearset you want however you can already tell you'll be better off modifying your factory one. Here's a thread with some data from Matt, hit him up since he's AWD and is venturing into the 12s.

Even though the G is a skyline and share similarities, you need to treat the G like a separate entity. I'm confident both differential can take the power with some good driveshafts. 800awhp can be a hell of a challenge the engine would probably be needing to be pushing close to 1000 HP to be able to give you that however I'm certain you see less than this. Why? you can count 1000hp VQ37s with your hands only. At this power the diffs should be the last of your worries, the trans WILL give up prior to.

I suggest you do some research into the q50/q60 transmission since they have a bigger converter and are slowly proving to be a better upgrade than even lvl 10 ones. These also come AWD and are equipped to handle more than the OEM X one.

Thanks for the info, as for the transfer case I meant an r32 r34 as they do not have a transaxle

Got you. With the introduction of the R35, "GT-R" is really where the similarities end and our chassis can use many parts from all chassis.

My main thought for lsd in the front was it would decrease failure of the axles and diff housing due to less twisting from torque steer and evenly disturbing power between the axle, just a thought

What are you doing for a transmission?

The stock 7AT your car comes with, and even the 7AT from the VR30 cars are so far from being able to overwhelm the AWD system.

You may be better served on the Q50/Q60 forums because they have guys pushing several hundred HP, if any of them are AWD they may have some insight for you.

Most of us VQ37 guys know that our 7AT will blow long before any other part of the car.

What I'd like to know is if the MT from the R32, 33 or 34 could be swapped into a G37x.

My plan was to put a red sport transmission with level 10 valve body and transfer case for around 500hp and eventually have level 10 do the whole transmission when I decide to move past that

I read WAY more bad stuff about Level 10 than I do good. As you probably already know, a few G and Z guys have swapped-in VR30 7AT into their cars. The reason they were motivated was that they had terrible experiences with Level 10. You'd do well to spend time on the Z, Q50 and Q60 forums reading up on everyone's Level 10 experiences.

Personally, at 500HP I wouldn't worry about the AWD system. You'll be spending most of your efforts with the 7AT.

Not too long ago I looked to see if the MT from a Skyline would fit our AWD cars, unfortunately it appears that isn't really an option. If I could convert to MT and keep AWD that would be awesome, I love my AWD and wouldn't want to give it up. These Z/G/Q cars with RWD can be quite a handful at higher HP levels.

Isn't Ken Block's Hoonicorn on a R32 AWD setup? (obviously with custom suspension setup)
