Coupe vs. Sedan : Trunk Damper Size

Wondering if the trunk dampers are the same size between the coupes and sedans?

You can check to see if they're the same part numbers here.

I've used hood supports from Rock Auto with good success on our M35. Maybe worth a try for the trunk.

I wish i would have saw this cause i bought the coupe version and you are right. But i can recommend the ones manufactured by Boxi for the hood though. For the trunk i put one new Boxi with one of my old factory ones and it works o.k. With 2 it was way too strong and didn't dampen when opened fully, unlike they do for the hood.

I checked as well and you are correct. This leads me to believe they are the same between coupe and sedan. However, a simple and cheap thing to do is call a local dealer for the sedan part part number. You can then compare it with the P/N offered by the web site.

Found it.
Lift Cylinder
84430-JK000G25, G37; SEDAN; ALL

https://www.discountinfinitiparts.co...as/body--trunk

About 3/4 of the way down the page. You have to scroll past the coupe section. Same P/N for both sides.

You see how much they charge for one? Forget that! Sach stabilus is oem. Rock auto has Sach for a little over $20 for both, at least for the coupe.

These are more or less an exact fit (you need 2):

No wobble, work great on '11 G37 sedan.

I have an ‘08 Coupe and I bought these axact same ones (6297) and they do not work for the coupes. They extend too far which allows the decklid to almost hit the back glass. After installing them I opened my rear lid and let them ride up on their own. The lid hinges over extended and the right side plastic mounting socket fractured off the cylinder. I returned them back to Amazon and did some more research on the Sachs website and got the correct part number (Stabilus Sachs SG471009).

These work perfectly and stop the decklid well before overextending the hinges. They’re $34 for two with free shipping.

I guess Amazon isn’t always correct referencing compatibility. I found a reference for multiple brands for hood/rear decklid struts for your car here: https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/ye...SEDAN%204-DOOR

Your decklid strut by Sachs (SG471007) extends 11”.
The coupe strut by Sachs (SG471009) extends 10 3/4”.

It’s hard to believe that such a small amount of length would make such a huge difference but the SG471009, doesn’t allow my hinges to over extend.

I’m assuming, based on your public profile picture of your car that it might be 2013-ish, so yours would take the SG471009 (same ones for my Sport Coupe).

Look for yourself and scroll down to the bottom here: https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/ye...SEDAN%204-DOOR
