How can I tell a real IPL from a fake? can the VIN tell me.

Lots of ways. Biggest is wheels and body kit. Suspension part numbers. Seats if after 2011 have IPL on them. Paint colors only came in 3 colors. Engine cover. Lastly dealer can verify with vin. There are many more minute details like stiching door cards etc.

 

I actually called my local Infiniti parts dept and verified it is an IPL using its VIN#. I thought they only were avail in two colors? Malbec black & Graphite Shadow (Grey)

VIN isn't very useful. Easiest way to tell is the wheels and body kit, but those can be bought and put on. If it's a 2012 or newer the seats will have IPL stitching, and the engine cover will have IPL as well, which I wouldn't expect anyone to go through the trouble of doing unless they're really trying to pass off a fake.

 

 

I think the white ones were convertible only?

 

Actually, the IPL logo replaced the previous Infiniti logo on IPL model front seatbacks starting with the 2013 model years.
