2011 G37x Riding Heavy?

Hello All,

I just purchased a 2011 G37x with roughly 82,000 miles on it, absolutely love the look and feel of the car. A really head turner. One thing I have noticed is it is very heavy! To the point where there is no "coasting" rather just accelerating and decelerating. Does anyone else have this problem or is it normal with the size/weight of the car?

Thanks!

That's pretty funny, I had the same reaction when I started driving mine as well though mine is a bit lighter (2013 Journey). Once you let go of the throttle the car loses its momentum pretty rapidly. It's a combination of the weight and the power/torque distribution I believe. The car does not make a lot of low end power or torque so getting it moving requires some effort and slowing it down requires little effort, ha!
The car shines in the higher rpm range though....I guess that's NA engines for you.
Congratulations on the purchase!

Also, what kinda tires are you running? Different tire compounds will have different rolling resistances so that could be a contributing factor as well as your tire pressure. That being said, there's still no getting around the weight of the car unfortunately

As a fellow x owner, even after all the mods and things done to the car is going to be really hard to get car under 3600lbs. I don’t have many options left to loose weight that keep it functional other than swapping rear driveshaft and front seats and I’m at 3750 with full tank haha.

First thing to get is front and rear sway-bars if you haven’t already. That will be one of the best bang for buck mods you can do to this car. Meaning you will feel the most difference with it handling. But unfortunately it will add weight lol.

Yup, our X's are heavy beasts. I'm stripping as much weight as possible currently. Already got rid of a bunch of stuff, but my car is not functional as a DD anymore.

Another thing is the torque converter stays locked until about 1500 rpm or less. This gives decent engine braking for that sporty feel.

With 4 drive wheels, you're going to have more drag when coasting. That said, later transmission programming seems to coast better and engine brake less. Dealer should be able to do the update.

what years got the later programming?

almost have to hit the gas in my 2013 when going down hills. won't really let you upshift much for coasting down hills like i used to be able to do in my Evo with SST.

Shark, 2013 should have all the updates, it was the earlier years that were affected.

Mine is a 2013 and i recall the dealer telling me they updated it when I was in for service. Either way, my mother has a 2011 EX and vomplained about the coasting and an update fixed her issues.
